MAJOR ROBERT FOY, Assistant Professor of Military Science

Major Robert Foy served as an enlisted soldier and non-commissioned officer for seven years before attending Officer Candidate School and being commissioned as a Field Artillery Second Lieutenant. He retired after over 22 years of active federal service.

During his enlisted career, Robert served as an Arabic linguist and is a graduate of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. He is also a graduate of the Jungle Warfare Training School in Panama, Ranger School, Jump Master School, Air Assault School, the Field Artillery and Armor Advance Courses and the Command and General Staff College.

During Desert Shield and Storm, Robert served as a battery executive officer in the 101st Airborne Division. When the U.S. committed troops to serve in Bosnia, following the Dayton Peace Accords, he served as a battery commander with the 1st Armored Division. Most recently, Major Foy was the Chief of Current Operations for the 8,000-soldier Multi-national Brigade-East in Kosovo.

Major Foy holds a BA in Human Services from Johnson State College, and an MA in Human Resources Development from Webster University.









 

 

 

 

   MAJOR T. GAILOR GARNER, Recruiting Operations Officer:   

MAJ Garner received his commission as a 2LT in the Armor Branch through ROTC at Davidson College in Davidson NC in May of 1988.  After serving as the Gold Bar Recruiter for Davidson College ROTC he completed Armor Officer training at FT Knox, KY.  His initial assignment from 1989 to 1992 was to the 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) in Bad Kissingen, Germany.  There he served as a tank platoon leader, Adjutant, and Assistant S1.  MAJ Garner deployed to Kuwait with the 11th ACR as part of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. 

In 1993 he joined the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) of the Tennessee Army National Guard.  From 1993 to 2006 he was part of 1st and 2nd Squadrons and served as a Scout Platoon Leader, Cavalry Troop Executive Officer, Cavalry Troop Commander, Squadron signal Officer, Assistant Squadron Operations Officer, and Squadron Operations Officer.  From May 2004 to December 2005 he deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom III with 2nd Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.  During the deployment he served as senior liaison officer for the Regiment to 1st and 42nd Infantry Division HQ, Military Transition Team leader training an Iraqi Army infantry battalion, and as 2nd Squadron Operations Officer.  In 2006 MAJ Garner transferred to the Virginia Army National Guard and joined the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) as the Assistant Brigade Operations Officer.  From April 2007 until February 2008 he deployed with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 116th IBCT to Baghdad, Iraq and served as the Deputy Director of Security for the International Zone (Green Zone).  Currently he is assigned as the Operations Officer for the 2/183rd CAV in the 116th IBCT.  His military education includes Airborne School, Armor Officer Basic Course, Scout Platoon Leader Course, Scout Certification Course, Armor Officer Advance Course, and Combined Armed Service Staff School. 

His awards include the Parachutist Badge, 2 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, 2 National Defense Service Medals, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ M Device, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, 2 Iraqi Campaign Medals, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Action Badge.  He lives in Lynchburg, VA and is the father of 2 children; Thomas age 11 and Clara age 8.

MAJOR Shane A. Morris enlisted in the Infantry in 1997.   After completing Basic Training and AIT at Ft. Benning, GA, he was assigned to 1/327th INF BDE, Ft. Campell, KY with the 101st as an 11H.  MAJOR Morris was commissioned as an Aviation Lieutenant in Dec 1999 following his graduation from Officer Candidate School. Upon completion of OCS, Flight School (IERW), and the CH-47D Qualification Course, he was assigned to B Co, 159th Aviation Regiment in Savannah, GA in Feb 2001.  He deployed with the “Hookers” to Pakistan and Afghanistan.  During his tour he held the positions of Flight Platoon Leader, LNO, 3/5 Platoon Leader, Operations Officer and Detachment Commander.  MAJOR Morris was selected to be Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commanding General of the Aviation Warfighting center from January 2004 through January 2005. In Feb 2005, he attended the Captains Career Course and was assigned to 1-223rd AVN Regtiment in July 2005. He then attended the CH-47D Instructor Pilot Course and took Command of B Co, 1-223rd AVN Regtiment on Oct 5, 2005 – April 5, 2007.  MAJOR Morris is a graduate of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, CH-47D Qualification Course, CH-47D Instructor Pilot Course, the Aviation Captain’s Career Course, Air Assault School, High-Altitude Army Aviation Training Site (HAATS) Course, and Combat Communications Course. In addition, he holds a Master of Aeronautical Science in Aviation/Aerospace Operations and Aviation/Aerospace Safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with Valor Device, Army Commendation Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Senior Aviator Badge, the Air Assault Badge and the Honorable Order of St. Michael Bronze Award. MAJOR Morris was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 28, 1971.  He is married to the former Stephanie Dunmire and they have a daughter and son, Ashley and Jordan.

MAJOR MICHAEL DONAHUE, Assistant Professor of Military Science

 

Mah native of Massachusetts.  He attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Columbus, Ohio where he received an Associate’s Degree in Electronics.  He enlisted in the Army in 1995 as a 95B (Military Policeman) serving at the 447th Military Police Company, Columbus, Ohio; Law Enforcement Command, Fort Knox, KY; United Nations Command Security Battalion - Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, South Korea and both the United States Army Infantry Center (USAIC) and 988th Military Police Companies at Fort Benning, GA.  

 

Major Donahue attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps in April 2000.  He attended the Signal Officer Basic Course at Fort Gordon, Georgia and in Oct 2000 was assigned to C Co, 82nd Signal Battalion, FT Bragg, North Carolina as a Mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE) Platoon Leader for 18 months.  Major Donahue then entered the U.S. Army Degree Completion Program in March 2002 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Campbell University in July 2003.  In May 2004 upon completion of the Signal Captains Career Course he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as the Battalion Signal Officer for 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment and, in March of 2005, he deployed with Task Force Devil to Eastern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. 

 

In April 2006, Major Donahue took command of C Co, 1BSTB (1BCT, 82nd Airborne Division) where, in June 2007, he led his company with Task Force Devil to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  There he was responsible for a Combat Out Post conducting Full Spectrum Operations with two Route Security Platoons and one Quick Reaction Platoon.  In addition to managing the planning and integration of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets; attack aviation, demolitions, counter surveillance, and 120mm and 60mm mortar fire support, Major Donahue’s mission was primarily focused on Counter Insurgency operations along 80 miles of Main Supply Route and Civil Military Operation amongst 8 Iraqi Tribes and within 14 local villages.  Upon successful completion of 24 months as Company Commander, Major Donahue was assigned to the 10th Iraqi Army Division Military Transition Team (MiTT) for his last three months in Iraq serving as the G6 communication advisor before transitioning to Liberty University Army ROTC.

 

Major Donahue’s military education includes the Military Police School, NBC Defense School, Instructor Training Course, Field Sanitation School, Combat Lifesaver Course, Airborne School, Primary Leader Development Course, Signal Officer Basic Course, Signal Captains Career Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Brigade and Battalion S6 Course, Jumpmaster Course, the Iraq Counter Insurgency Course and the US Army Cadet Command Faculty Development Course. 

 

Major Donahue’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (w/oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (w/second oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (w/oak leaf cluster), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (w/ bronze star), Korean Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, German Armed Force Efficiency Badge (Gold award), German Parachutist Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Combat Action Badge, and the Signal Regimental Bronze Order of Mercury.  Major Donahue is married and has three children and a German Sheppard.  Major Donahue’s short term goals are completing his Masters degree in Education and starting his Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership. His long term goal is to become a Battalion S3 and XO in an Airborne Unit, attend Ranger school and to provide communication support within the US Army Special Operations Command. 

 

MASTER SERGEANT RAMSDELL, Senior Military Instructor:

 

 

MSG Ron Ramsdell enlisted in the Army on May 25, 1988 and attended Infantry OSUT at Fort Benning, Georgia, “The Home of the Infantry.”  Upon completion of Basic Training and Advance Individual Training MSG Ramsdell began a military career that would have him assigned to units spanning the entire globe; from Georgia to Germany and Colorado to the DMZ of Korea with multiple tours to the Middle East. MSG Ramsdell has served the United States Army in many capacities: a M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle Driver, Infantry Team Leader, Bradley Commander, Infantry Platoon Sergeant, and most recently as a First Sergeant in a Combined Arms Battalion. MSG Ramsdell has Multiple Combat tours beginning with Operation Desert Storm, Operation Provide Comfort, and most recently with 2 tours in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Some of the military schools that MSG Ramsdell has graduated from include the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course and the United States Army Battle Staff Course; as well as, the United States Army Recruiter School. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with V, the Bronze Star Medal with 2 OLC, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 OLC, the Army Achievement Medal with 13 OLC, The Combat Infantry Badge (second Award), the Expert Infantry Badge and the Combat Action Badge. He is married to the former Melissa K Looney (CPT, MS) and they have 3 daughters Lyndsie, Kylie and Lauren.

SERGEANT FIRST CLASS RICK ALEXANDER, Senior Military Instructor

Sergeant First Class (SFC) Rickey Alexander has served as an enlisted soldier and noncommissioned officer for 19 years in the U. S. Army. He has served in a number of Field Artillery related jobs throughout his career. He has served as a Battery Fire Direction NCO, a Battalion Fire Control NCO, an Operations Sergeant, an Operational Test NCOIC, and as a Combined Effects Synchronization Planning NCOIC. SFC Alexander has served in locations throughout the U. S., Germany, and the Republic of Korea. He is a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course, the Basic and Advanced NCO Courses, the Battle Staff School and a variety of other army schools. He is currently working to complete his BA in Education. 

 

 

 


 

 

MARSHA DIANE MARTINEZ, Administrative Technician/Acting Human Resources Assistant
Mrs. "Di" Martinez, Senior Master Sergeant (USAF Retired), is the Administrative Technician/Human Resources Assistant for the Army ROTC program. Mrs. Martinez began her tenure in this position on 13 August 2001.  Mrs. Martinez retired from the U.S. Air Force with over 26 years of service on 1 June 2000. She is a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and the Persian Gulf War. Her assignments included Kincheloe Air Force Base, Michigan; Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; Ramstein Air Base, Germany; and McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. Among other medals, she has received the Meritorious Service Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.  She holds an Associate in Applied Science with the Community College of the Air Force and a B.S. in Social Science with University of Southern Colorado; she is finishing her Masters in School Counseling at Lynchburg College, Lynchburg VA.
