The annual "Day of Silence," a pro-homosexual event sponsored by a radical group called the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN), will be celebrated on April 25, 2008 in many public schools. This student-organized event encourages students to remain silent for the entire the school day. GLSEN would like you to believe that the Day of Silence is about kindness and tolerance, but it is really about getting students to accept radical, destructive ideas about sexuality.

Parents who do not want their children exposed to GLSEN's anti-family agenda can choose to keep their children home. We have prepared information to explain how schools and families can choose not to participate in the Day of Silence. Read this letter and you will know the steps that can be taken to protect the school day from being hijacked by GLSEN.

Liberty Counsel is coordinating efforts with other groups like the American Family Association (AFA) and Mission America to stand with students and parents in a boycott of the Day of Silence. AFA is promoting Liberty Counsel's legal opinion letter about the Day of Silence.  There are many schools that are listed as participants of the Day of Silence. You can check to see if your school is listed as a participant on Mission America's web site. 

Schools do not have to tolerate students remaining silent in class. Conduct on the part of a student that causes a substantial disruption or material interference with school activities is not protected under the First Amendment. Students cannot learn if they refuse to talk and participate in class.

Our legal letter also suggests ways to minimize the effect of student clubs focusing on sexuality, such as the clubs that promote the Day of Silence.

The real purpose of the Day of Silence is to silence opposition to homosexuality and to indoctrinate our youth to accept aberrant sexual ideas and behavior.
