Marriage Amendment Upheld by California Supreme Court
Today the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8 by a vote of 6-1, thus affirming the constitutional amendment passed in November that defines marriage as only the union of one man and woman.
Justice Moreno was the lone dissenter on the Court. Unfortunately, the Court unanimously refused to invalidate the same-sex "marriage" licenses obtained in that state before November. Still, this decision is an important victory in the marriage battle in California and will impact the entire Nation.
Shortly after the amendment passed in November, three lawsuits were filed against Proposition 8 at the California Supreme Court by same-sex marriage advocates. Liberty Counsel filed a brief at the Supreme Court in defense of the law.
