"Disturbingly Aggressive"

Sep 7, 2019

Even the Los Angeles Times thinks California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is wrong to prosecute pro-life hero Sandra Merritt. See why below and stand with Sandra as she fights for her freedom against the almost unlimited resources of the state of California.

Liberty Counsel is representing Sandra in one of the most critical pro-life cases in the nation today. Because costs are soaring and so much rides on the outcome, I ask you to consider a generous gift today!

Thank you for your generosity! Read below to see why even the LA Times thinks Becerra is guilty of "disturbing overreach"! –Mat

You'll be stunned to learn that one of the nation's most liberal and well-known newspapers came out strongly against California's prosecution of pro-life hero Sandra Merritt.

The Los Angeles Times--no friend to the preborn--attacked California Attorney General Xavier Becerra for his "disturbingly aggressive" 15-count felony indictment of Sandra and her colleague David Daleiden.

Becerra, who has taken in thousands in campaign donations from abortion giant Planned Parenthood, slapped Sandra with a frivolous and politically driven 15-count criminal indictment in 2017.

Sandra courageously went undercover to expose Planned Parenthood's gruesome trade in body parts harvested from infants it kills in its abortion chambers nationwide.

+  +  Classic investigative journalism

What Sandra did is classic investigative journalism. Her undercover videos, captured with colleague David Daleiden, shocked the nation. They sparked congressional inquiries--even a Senate referral calling on the FBI to investigate Planned Parenthood on suspicion it violated federal law that bans buying or selling fetal tissue.

But Becerra, Planned Parenthood's hired gun, charged Sandra with felony invasion of privacy—a charge never before levied against an undercover journalist in California.

Which is why the Los Angeles Times denounced Becerra...

"It's disturbingly aggressive," the newspaper declared, "for Becerra to apply this criminal statute to people who were trying to influence a contested issue of public policy...[T]heir aim was to change people's views on important and controversial issues—abortion and fetal tissue research."

The LA Times compared what David and Sandra did to "animal welfare investigators who have gone undercover at slaughterhouses and other agricultural businesses to secretly record horrific and illegal abuses of animals. That work, too, is aimed at revealing wrongdoing and changing public policy."

And that's why, the Times added, "the state law forbidding recording of conversations should be applied narrowly, and to clear and egregious violations of privacy where the motive is personal gain."

In fact, no other Golden State journalist has ever faced criminal charges for using tried and true methods of undercover journalism. Until now.

And the stakes for Sandra are huge. If convicted, she will face huge fines and years in prison!

Which is why she needs your help now!

We’re halfway through the two-week preliminary hearing in the criminal case against Sandra. It's a grueling mini-trial to determine if the evidence is adequate to go to trial.

+  +  Critical pro-life case

She's fighting for her freedom in one of the most important pro-life cases in the nation today.

This fight is incredibly expensive. Our attorneys are on the ground in San Francisco for this two-week legal clash.

And another intense contest is coming in just weeks when Liberty Counsel goes to trial against Planned Parenthood in its outrageous civil lawsuit seeking millions from Sandra in damages and fees.

That trial in San Francisco begins Oct. 2 and may go six weeks. The costs are huge and your help is needed now!

Will you make a generous gift now to defend Sandra and defeat Planned Parenthood?

This is a pivotal fight. Sandra's courageous undercover journalism revealed the dark, sordid and profit-driven world of fetal-tissue trafficking.

And now Planned Parenthood is seeking revenge!

Please stand with her and be as generous as you can!

Thank you for your friendship, your prayers and your support now!
