McConnell Doesn't Have the Votes!

Jan 29, 2020

The Senate comes to a critical crossroad in the sham impeachment trial of President Donald Trump in just two days. It will either acquit President Trump or plunge the nation into weeks, possibly months, of additional litigation and testimony.

And here’s the bad news—Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell doesn’t have enough GOP votes to stop this political witch hunt by blocking the calling of witnesses.

Two GOP senators—Mitt Romney (UT) and Susan Collins (ME)—are signaling they want to help Democrats expand their fishing expedition by voting for more witnesses and documents. Another four appear willing to cave.

When will this ever end? First, the two-year Mueller investigation which turned up nothing. Then the hyper-partisan and baseless House impeachment inquiry. It's all a poisonous Democrat campaign to erase the president's name from the 2020 ballot—or wound him politically with sham charges.

You and I need to speak out NOW!

Time is short because the Senate votes this Friday. Tell waffling GOP senators to stop the witch hunt, reject the calling of more witnesses and acquit President Trump now!

Senate Democrats need four GOP senators to break ranks with their Republican colleagues to win a vote for additional witnesses.

Mitt Romney and Susan Collins are on board with the Democrats’ scheme to turn President Trump’s impeachment trial into an endless fishing expedition. At least four more—Murkowski (AK), Alexander (TN), Toomey (PA) and Portman (Ohio)—may join them.

"I think that Bolton probably has something to offer us," Sen. Murkowski said yesterday, cracking open the door to extending this baseless impeachment farce.

Instead of ending this scurrilous attack on the president by voting to acquit Friday, four or more GOP senators may vote with Democrats to add witnesses and prolong the trial for weeks, maybe months.

It’s time to end this partisan show trial! Send your fax to wavering GOP senators now!

Let me give you four reasons why inserting additional witnesses into President Trump’s impeachment trial is a bad idea . . .

  1. Additional witnesses won’t change the outcome one iota. House Democrats allege no crime on the president’s part and their vague charges—abuse of power and obstruction of Congress—are not even constitutional grounds for impeachment. Twenty GOP senators would have to vote with Democrats to convict the president. That won’t happen.
  2. The Bolton “bombshell” only alleges that President Trump said he wanted to tie aid to Ukraine to an investigation of the Bidens. First, exposing corruption is a good idea. Second, the president adamantly denies the charge. But that aside, President Trump did nothing wrong. He released aid to Ukraine and no investigation was launched. In other words, no “quid” and no “quo.”
  3. Adding witnesses just gives Democrats a fresh chance to pursue their political vendetta against the president.
  4. House Democrats confidently proclaimed in December that they had an “overwhelming” and “compelling case” against the president. Now, suddenly, they need more witnesses and documents to make their case? Democrats are now demanding testimony they refused to pursue during their one-sided House impeachment inquiry. They can’t have it both ways.

It’s all a sham, a show trial and a farce with just one purpose: to attack President Trump in an election year. And yet moderate Republicans like Mitt Romney, Susan Collins and others seem to want to help Democrats knife the president!

Make your voice heard! Tell Romney, Collins and other wavering GOP senators to end this fishing expedition against the president now!
