Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has defied direct orders from the Federal Court, the U.S. Attorney General and the Department of Justice in his continued attacks on Christians.  By the time you read this email today, Liberty Counsel will have filed suit in Federal Court to force Gov. Beshear to obey both the Kentucky State and the United States Constitutions.

On Good Friday, Attorney General William Barr advised all 50 U.S. governors that states cannot interfere with the First Amendment right to worship.

On Saturday, the next day, a Federal Court ordered Louisville, KY, Mayor Greg Fischer and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear not to interfere with any church services or churchgoers.

On Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate our Risen Savior, Kentucky’s governor defied the Federal Court by sending police officers to serve quarantine notices on churchgoers who were sitting in their own cars to listen to the Easter service in the parking lot over loud speakers.

On Monday, U.S. Attorney General William Barr issued another warning - this time a formal written warning -  to all governors including Beshear, reiterating that churches have a constitutionally protected right to meet and worship and that no governor, mayor or any governmental entity has the legal authority to treat them different than secular businesses.

But Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear chose to defy every law and continue with his illegal and unconstitutional attack on Kentucky Christians by putting Christians on house arrest.

On the next Thursday, a full three days after the U.S. Department of Justice warned Governor Beshear to leave churches alone, Beshear sent a letter ordering the owners and occupants of the ticketed vehicles to a 14-day mandatory quarantine. Yet, not a single one of the shoppers filling Walmart, Home Depot, liquor stores, or crowding any other parking lot in Kentucky received the same treatment.

Kentucky Governor Beshear’s tyrannical actions were aimed solely at Christians.

It is important to note here that not a single member of the Kentucky church we represent has tested positive for COVID-19.

Several of the attendees have now lost their jobs due to the governor’s illegal, unconstitutional quarantine/house arrest.

Our Kentucky client is not alone in being illegally targeted by anti-Christian politicians. Our phones here at Liberty Counsel are ringing off the hook with desperate calls from pastors around the country suffering from the same anti-Christian bias as worshippers in Kentucky.

We have never been busier defending the rights of every American Christian and have been approached by churches in many states seeking legal assistance in this time of persecution.

When we founded Liberty Counsel in 1989, we could never imagine having to defend churches against such targeted government discrimination. Yet here we are fighting for the constitutionally guaranteed right to worship our Lord and Savior. It is not simply a right for Liberty Counsel to defend religious freedom, it is our duty, a duty we take very seriously.
