The Miss America Pageant used to be as American as apple pie.
Now it appears the next Miss America could be a GUY!
Our client, Miss North Florida, has been stripped of her crown for refusing to agree to a contract that requires boys to have their genitals surgically removed by age 14.
The next Miss Florida and Miss America might be a man, and our client Kayleigh Bush has been stripped of her Miss North Florida crown and title for objecting this absurd idea.
For decades, the Miss America pageant and its subsidiary state pageant crowns have celebrated womanhood. But the organization has gone “woke,” bowing to LGBTQ nonsense that now requires females to compete against males for the Miss America crown!
What makes the Miss America organization’s policy even more stomach churning is the organization’s new requirement, which states that boys who decide to compete in the competition must have ALL of their male genital organs surgically removed before competing.
Since the pageant competitions begin at 14 years of age, young boys who had mutilating surgeries to remove their male body parts can compete for the crown. Countries around the globe are already banning such draconian surgeries on minors. The state of Florida itself has outlawed such surgeries on children. But the Miss America pageant doesn’t care. That is, until we make them care.
Kayleigh Bush won the Miss North Florida crown and title in August 2024, which established her as Miss North Florida 2025. She is an amazing, articulate Christian who exemplifies the very best. But when Kayleigh showed up for a photo shoot several weeks later, the Miss Florida and Miss America organizations demanded she sign a contract agreeing to compete against biological men in the statewide pageant.
The contract language states that applicants must be “female,” and that “female” means:
[A]n individual who has fully completed Sex Reassignment Surgery [sic] via Vaginoplasty (from male to female) [sic] with supporting medical documentation and records. Supporting medical documentation must be in the form of the certification attached, signed by the surgeon who performed the surgery and notarized, along with a copy of board certification and a current medical license. No alternative gender affirming [sic] surgery will suffice as acceptable in place of a Vaginoplasty [sic].
Don’t let MEN steal Miss America’s crown!
Now, on the one hand, this definition does not allow anyone to claim he is a “she,” but on the other hand, this definition affirms that a male can become “female” by surgically removing male organs and undergoing a brutal “vaginoplasty.” What planet are these people living on?
Moreover, this definition also assumes that such mutilating surgeries are acceptable. Kids under 14 have no idea the ramifications of these life-altering and dangerous surgeries which are in no way medically necessary.
Citing religious views and strong objection to the surgical mutilation of boys, Kayleigh requested a religious exemption from the gender-bending contract.
The Miss Florida and Miss America organizations REFUSED Kayleigh’s request. Liberty Counsel sent a demand letter on Kayleigh’s behalf requesting they reconsider the contract language and restore Bush’s title so that she can compete in the Miss Florida Competition scheduled for June 25-28, 2025.
However, the Miss Florida and Miss America competitions have now twice refused to revise their contract. In addition to pulling an effective “bait and switch” on Kayleigh by changing the contract language after she won the Miss North Florida crown, the new contract also violates standing Florida law.
Any contract that violates a provision of the Florida Constitution or a Florida statute is void and illegal and will not be enforced in Florida courts.
The U.S. Supreme Court just validated our case!
Last month, the High Court ruled in US v. Skrmetti, another case Liberty Counsel briefed. The Court upheld a Tennessee law — similar to Florida’s law — that prohibits puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and so-called “s x change” surgeries for minors.
SCOTUS ruled that states DO have the right to protect minors from these horrific medical experiments. As a result, Liberty Counsel now has 40 wins in cases we have argued or briefed before the U.S. Supreme Court! This bodes well for our case defending Kaleigh.
Liberty Counsel continues to defend Kayleigh and all of the other REAL women who seek to celebrate womanhood through the Miss America contests. But we need your direct financial help.
Liberty Counsel never charges our clients, as few could afford to battle multimillion dollar organizations on their own. Instead, our clients rely on YOU, the generous Liberty Counsel supporter to ensure justice is done.
Praise God, a supporter has established a Challenge Grant that will DOUBLE the impact of every donation made to our legal fund. Please, give generously today!
