Albany, GA - By a 2-to-1 margin, Georgia’s GOP primary voters, in a non-binding vote, overwhelmingly voted in favor of placing a Personhood amendment on the ballot to amend the state Constitution. Georgia Right to Life President Dan Becker today called on the State Legislature to acknowledge clear public sentiment and approve placing a Personhood amendment before all voters in 2014.

Question 5 on the primary ballot asked, “Should the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that the paramount right to life is vested in each innocent human being from his or her earliest biological beginning without regard to age, race, sex, health, function, or condition of dependency?” The non-binding vote passed in 158 out of 159 counties. Statewide, the average approval vote was 66 percent, but in most counties it was between 71 and 78 percent.

Liberty Counsel partners with Personhood USA and advocates for the passage of “Personhood” legislation and constitutional amendments in states across the country. Earlier this week, Liberty Counsel presented a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Personhood Oklahoma.

The first right is the right to life, without which there are no other rights. The right to life is clearly set forth in the Declaration of Independence where the Founders wrote that we are endowed by our Creator with the unalienable right to life.”

“Tuesday’s non-binding primary results are the beginning of a culture of life in Georgia,” Staver said. “Despite the lies from those who profit from killing the unborn, Personhood initiatives permit in-vitro fertilization, allow the use of most contraceptives, and continue to grant women essential health services, while protecting the youngest and most innocent among us,” Staver said.
