Little Rock, AR – Liberty Counsel filed an amicus brief on behalf of the Human Heartbeat Protection Act (Act). In part, Liberty Counsel's brief states, “Given the unequivocal proclamations of both the Supreme Court and two en banc Eighth Circuit panels, together with the evidence of the inadequacy of the existing practices of abortion clinics and the harm caused to women, it is beyond dispute that the informed consent provisions here are constitutional. The Act merely mandates that abortion providers inform women seeking an abortion of truthful, relevant, and nonmisleading information concerning their decision to have an abortion.”

The ACLU and Center for Reproductive Rights are fighting to allow the abortionists to deceive unsuspecting women unaware of the significant emotional, psychological, and physical harms that result from their uninformed decision to have an abortion. The Human Heartbeat Protection Act would protect these women by requiring that abortion providers inform women of the fact that their unborn child has a heartbeat and provide them with the statistical probability of carrying the child to term.

“Women have the right to be informed about life and death decisions inherent in abortion,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “No woman should go through any surgery, especially an elective abortion, without being informed of the potentially serious side effects,” Staver said. “The ACLU's suit is just one in a long line of cases that want to hide the truth behind the horrors of abortion, regardless of the impact it has on the women they are intentionally deceiving while claiming to protect. Abortion is the worst kind of violence against humanity. Abortion slaughters innocent and defenseless human life created in the image of God. It is time we stop playing games and pretending like the Constitution authorized the killing of children in the womb. Why would anyone favor hiding the truth from mothers?" Staver concluded.
