Washington, DC - Today, we mourn four decades of violence against preborn children. Since January 22, 1973, America has aborted about 54 million preborn children. By contrast, we have lost under 1 million people in all the wars in American history combined, from the Revolution to the Civil War to Afghanistan.

Abortion hits minority communities the hardest. While African-Americans make up 12 percent of the population, 37 percent of all abortions are against African-American babies. The same is true for the Hispanic population who make up about 15 percent of the population but represent 22 percent of all abortions.

“I believe the fulfillment of the dream of justice for the preborn is going to find its roots in the very communities hurt most by this senseless injustice,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. Citing yesterday’s keynote address by Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, at the 45th Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Commemoration Service, Staver said, “Justice will always speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Silence is not an option. It is time for America to rise up with Dr. King’s dream and live out our Christian faith. It is time for America to rise up and defend the preborn.”

Liberty Counsel is the new sponsor of the Life Directive for the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, which has 40,118 evangelical Hispanic churches as members. Liberty Counsel and Liberty Counsel Action will be the legislative and policy advocate for the NHCLC in Washington, DC and around the country.

While we mourn, we are thankful that the number of state laws to educate women and protect preborn children are on the increase.  In 2011, 92 abortion-regulating provisions were passed by state legislatures. A Time Magazine front page story recently concluded, “At the state level, abortion-rights activists are unequivocally losing.”

“While we have been successful at the state level, there is still much to do, including defunding Planned Parenthood and defeating the ObamaCare abortion mandate,” said Mat Staver. Planned Parenthood’s annual report reveals that the abortion giant performed an astounding 334,000 abortions last year and only 2,300 adoption referrals. Planned Parenthood received 1.2 million dollars per day in government funding. “Planned Parenthood offers one adoption referral for every 145 abortions it performs. Despite their claims to be a women’s health organization, their business model is clearly that of an abortion provider,” said Staver.

“Liberty Counsel is litigating against ObamaCare to overturn the abortion mandate. Time is of the essence,” Staver said. “July 1 is the due date for many annual insurance plan renewals, and that is when the forced abortion funding mandate will hit most employers. Our case challenges the entire employer mandate along with the forced funding of abortion in both the employer and individual mandates.”
