California Gov. Gavin Newsom has banned places of worship from singing and chanting, even in small fellowship gatherings in private homes.
But singing and chanting are critically important aspects of Christian worship. Here's what the Bible has to say about it...
- Colossians 3:16 -- Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
- Psalm 95:1-2 -- Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
- Ephesians 5:19 -- Addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,
- Psalm 147:1 -- Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.
- James 5:13 -- Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
- Psalm 13:6 -- I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.
- Psalm 105:2 -- Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!

So, there you have it, straight from the Word of the Lord itself – singing praises to our Lord is essential. The Bible tells us so!
