Tennessee Declares June 2026 “Nuclear Family Month”

Apr 20, 2026

NASHVILLE, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee recently signed a resolution declaring June 2026 as “Nuclear Family Month,” which rejects the celebration of LGBTQ “pride month.” Tennessee House Joint Resolution 182 overwhelmingly passed the state House of Representatives 72-18, and the state Senate by 26-4. While the bill was originally intended for June 2025, the state Senate did not pass the resolution until this year, and an amendment changed the resolution to take effect for June 2026.

The resolution reads that “the nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children, is God’s design for familial structure and has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world,” and that “the nuclear family built the United States of America and created prosperity within our nation.”

The resolution specifically rejects “the humanistic, globalist ideologies of the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and like-minded organizations that fight for population control through the means of promoting sterilization and abortion practices” because “the nuclear family is God’s perfect design for humanity.”

Tennessee legislators also noted the epidemic of fatherlessness in America and the results of when the nuclear family is disrupted. The resolution states that fatherless families are four times more likely to experience poverty while children raised without fathers are 10 times more likely to be victims of drug and alcohol abuse and more likely to experience mental health and behavioral challenges.

“Sixty percent of youth suicides are from fatherless homes,” reads the resolution.  “Seventy-one percent of high school dropouts are from fatherless homes; fatherless youths are 20 times more likely to be incarcerated; 85 percent of youths in prison come from fatherless homes; and in a 2016 study on the psychology behind 56 school shooters, 82 percent of the shooters were raised in an unstable family environment or without both biological parents.”

“The nuclear family is under attack in our beloved State and nation, and it is our responsibility to uplift, protect, and support values that help Tennessee prosper,” the resolution concluded.

Tennessee’s resolution follows actions by the Trump administration where the U.S. Department of Education formally recognized in June 2025 that June would be “Title IX Month” to highlight the need for protecting women based on sex in educational activities, sports, and sex-segregated private spaces. In addition, legislators in the U.S. Congress have introduced a resolution to declare June as “Life Month” in honor of the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2022 Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

Liberty Counsel’s Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “We commend Tennessee legislators for embracing the nuclear family as society’s foundational building block. The traditional core family unit is essential for a healthy society to function and flourish.”
