Uniting America With Prayer To “Glorify God”

May 6, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tomorrow, people across America are encouraged to gather for the 75th annual National Day of Prayer to specifically pray for the seven centers of influence in the nation which include government, military, media, business, education, church, and family.

This year’s National Day of Prayer will commemorate the two historic milestones of the nation’s 250th anniversary alongside the 75 years of a specific day of prayer set aside for the nation.

The 2026 National Day of Prayer theme is “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations,” which is based on a prayer of thanksgiving by King David in 1 Chronicles 16:24. The verse reads, “Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.”

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, that requires presidents to declare an annual National Day of Prayer. It states, “Whereas the Congress, by a joint resolution approved on April 17, 1952, has provided that the President ‘shall set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation’; and whereas I deem it fitting that this Day of Prayer coincide with the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which published to the world this Nation’s ‘firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence.’”

According to the 2026 prayer offered by the National Day of Prayer Task Force, Americans are encouraged to “rededicate” their hearts and lives to God and submit praise for 250 years for His “wisdom, grace, mercy, and love” over America.

The National Day of Prayer will precede another special prayer event that will take place May 17, 2026, titled “Rededicate 250: National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise, and Thanksgiving.” President Donald Trump declared the event will be held on the National Mall as part of America’s 250th birthday celebration to “rededicate America as one nation under God.” The 12-hour sacred dedication event promises that “In speech, song, and storytelling, we will bear witness to the extraordinary story of how God has powerfully and wonderfully shaped the United States of America — remembering the people, sacrifices, and defining moments in which God has powerfully manifested Himself in our history.”

Previously, the Continental Congress had declared May 17, 1776, a national day of fasting and prayer before the Founders signed the Declaration of Independence.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “We are grateful for these nationwide calls to prayer. They remind us how prayer has shaped our nation. From the time of our Founders to today, our humility to seek and worship God remains essential to the strength, liberty, and future of our nation.”
