Another Step Toward Taxpayer Defunding of Abortion

Jul 3, 2025

Today, the House passed President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” in a 218-214 vote, so now it goes to his desk in time for the Fourth of July holiday. This victory includes critical provisions that defund the abortion industry, including a one-year block on Medicaid reimbursements to providers like Planned Parenthood.

Despite the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey on June 24, 2022, Planned Parenthood aborted more unborn children during the 2023-2024 fiscal year than the previous year and brought in a $100 million increase in taxpayer funding. In the recently released 2023-2024 fiscal year annual report titled, “A Force for Hope,” Planned Parenthood performed 402,230 abortions during that time. That is an increase of nearly 10,000 abortions over the previous year (392,715).

The report also showed Planned Parenthood received about $792.2 million in “Government Health Services Reimbursements & Grants” versus $699.3 million from the previous year. U.S. taxpayers are Planned Parenthood’s largest financial contributor by supplying 39 percent of the organization’s $2 billion in revenue.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is another positive step toward stopping forced taxpayer funding of the abortion industry. Planned Parenthood commits over 1,100 abortions per day. Taxpayers should never be forced to pay for human genocide that kills innocent children and harms women every day.”
