Today, a three-member panel of the federal court of appeals in St. Louis, Missouri, is hearing a case involving the distribution of Gideon Bibles to school children.
Mat Staver is presenting oral argument in the case of Roark v. South Iron R-1 School District, on behalf of the District and its equal access policy, which allows outside groups to offer secular or religious materials, including Bibles, to students from a table at school.
After the ACLU sued the District, a lower federal court judge ruled the District's policy unconstitutional because it could be used to allow students access to the Bible, which she derisively called "an instrument of religion."
Please pray that this judge's outrageous ruling is reversed by the appeals court. The Bible should not be treated as contraband in our public schools.
Audio of the oral argument will be made available on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals website. Click on "Attorney Who Argued" link on the left side of the frame and enter Mathew Staver's name in the boxes on the next page.
