Employee Forced to Say "Happy Holidays" Was Fired After Objecting to the Greeting

Dec 22, 2008

A rental assistant for a property management company in Panama City, Florida was fired recently after she objected to saying "Happy Holidays."  Tonia Thomas offered to say either "Merry Christmas" or to continue greeting callers the same way they are greeted throughout the year.

After she politely explained to the company president that her religious beliefs prevented her from contributing to the secularization of Christmas, he fired her for "insubordination" because she refused to say "Happy Holidays."

When she insisted on taking her purse from her desk, he summoned the police and forced her to leave. Tonia filed a complaint with the EEOC and contacted Liberty Counsel for legal representation.

Please pray for Tonia, her husband (who is serving in the Air Force), and their 6-year-old son.
