Natural Marriage: The Strongest Foundation

Dec 23, 2015

Earlier this year, Liberty Counsel asked, “What would happen if, instead of quiet retreat, many thousands of individuals, agencies, charities, churches and schools all came together, prepared, prayed and peacefully refused to countenance the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage decision that violates not only our highest legal document, but the laws of Nature and Nature’s God?”

Many heard that clarion call and refused to sacrifice their conscience. Liberty Counsel stood beside these heroes of faith in courtrooms across the country defending their religious liberty:

  • Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis was sent to jail for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses under her name and authority. Today, Kim is free, she is still the Clerk of Rowan County, and she has never once sacrificed her conscience.
  • A Texas clerk publically declared the Supreme Court marriage ruling to be illegitimate and refuses to issue same-sex “marriage” licenses.
  • North Carolina Magistrate Judges refused to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Because of their courage, the North Carolina Legislature passed a religious freedom exemptions bill.
  • Liberty Counsel worked with countless churches to protect them against same-sex “marriage” and other radical LGBT initiatives.

During this year, we have worked against laws in California and New Jersey that prevent minors from receiving Christian counseling to overcome unwanted same-sex attractions or behavior.

We continued to defend a Massachusetts pastor who faces charges from the radical group, Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG), for allegedly violating international law while visiting Uganda, simply because he spoke Biblical truth about same-sex activity. We are fighting a radical group that seems determined to bankrupt the pastor and Liberty Counsel by dragging us through an unreasonable battle.

We supported the marriage laws in Puerto Rico when their Solicitor General refused to defend natural marriage and left no one defending their current laws. We defended natural marriage in Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Texas, and in an amicus brief at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Read more about how Liberty Counsel strategically fights for the family in this free Year-End Report.

Liberty Counsel is also strategic in the use of resources. Our nondonor funding averaged over the past two years (which includes court-awarded attorney's fees received from our opposition) has covered 100% of our fundraising and administrative costs for the same time period, leaving every penny we receive from generous donors like you to fund our vital  litigation and education projects!

There is never a better time to give, because a generous donor has given "matching money" that will double your gift! Turn $10,000 into $20,000; $5,000 into $10,000; $250 into $500; or $5 into $10 - any amount will help.

Great news! Our friends aged 70 ½ or older can now donate to Liberty Counsel directly from an IRA with no adverse tax consequences! The President just signed into law the “Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015.” Among other provisions, this legislation allows donors over 70 1/2 years of age to give up to $100,000 out of their IRAs directly to a charity of their choice! The gift must go directly from the IRA custodian to a charity like Liberty Counsel.

If you have an IRA from which you would like to give a gift to Liberty Counsel, instruct your IRA custodian to make a check payable to "Liberty Counsel” and mail it to P.O. Box 540774, Orlando, FL 32854. Because of the new law, donors over 70 ½ years of age will not need to include the distribution in their taxable income for the period in which the gift is given! Those who take advantage of this tax-free opportunity to give directly from an IRA, however, cannot also take a charitable deduction for the amount of the gift. If you have questions about this unique new opportunity for those 70 ½ years of age and older, please call us at 1-800-671-1776 or contact us by email at [email protected].

The best time to give is now, during our Matching Grant Challenge!
