Death Threat to Your Religious Freedom in House

May 14, 2019

The House votes this week on HR 5, the dangerous and falsely named "Equality Act." This morning, in my interview with Pat Robertson on The 700 Club, Pat called the bill "iniquitous" and he's right.

Far from ensuring equality, it takes an LGBT wrecking ball to your religious liberty. It elevates LGBT rights above your First-Amendment liberties.

And we have a huge problem. That's because . . .

HR 5 is a slam dunk for passage in the House where Democrats hold a majority. But we can stop it in the Senate, if we make our voices heard.

That's why I'm asking you to join me in petitioning the Senate to block this assault on your liberties.

+  +  Under HR 5, LGBT rights trump yours

And if you have any doubt that HR 5 is a death threat to your freedom, don't take my word for it. Take it from Rep. Jerry Nadler, the hyper-partisan Democrat Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a key Equality Act backer. A few weeks ago, Nadler announced that. . .

"Religion is no excuse for discrimination. . . when it comes to sexual orientation or gender identity."

As Nadler made plain, there is NO RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION to this bill! In other words, LGBT rights trump yours under HR 5. If this bill becomes law:

  • Churches would be forced to hire gender-confused individuals and allow men access to female restrooms, showers, etc.
  • Churches that provide weddings would be forced to provide the same facilities for LGBT "same-sex weddings."
  • LGBT indoctrination would be required in school curricula and in workplaces
  • Faith-based adoption agencies would be forced, against their religious convictions, to place children in homes with same-sex couples.
  • Counselors who want to help minors and adults facing unwanted same-sex desires or actions would be gagged--banned by law from providing desired counseling.

In brief, we will see a surge of instances in which Christians and others are being punished unless they violate their beliefs in order to comply with such a law. And that is just the beginning of the lawless chaos that would afflict America.

The House bill's sponsor, Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI), who is openly homosexual, dared to assert, "we cannot allow claims of religious freedom to be used to discriminate against an LGBT individual."

Again, their preferred lifestyle trumps your religious liberty.

The Equality Act is not about equality. It eviscerates religious freedom and targets churches. It pushes the LGBT agenda on all people and assaults Christianity in every area of life--including the church.

+  +  Tell the Senate to "kill this bill"!

This bill--a wrecking ball to your First Amendment freedoms and mine--is a done deal in the House where a supermajority of 240 members have already signed on to the bill. That leaves the Senate, which is why I'm asking you to join me right now in petitioning the upper chamber to kill this bill!

Working together, we can stop this overt attack on religious liberty in the U.S. Senate. But only if we speak out loud and strong. Please join thousands of others by signing Liberty Counsel's "Stop the Attack on Religious Liberty" today.
