This is what has happened to Sandra Merritt. The pressure she has felt battling both Planned Parenthood and the legal force of the State of California is almost unimaginable.

Through our defense of Sandra, Liberty Counsel's legal team uncovered an "unholy alliance" between Planned Parenthood and government officials.

For starters, both Attorney Generals involved in the case--current U.S. Senator (and presidential candidate) Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra--have received thousands of dollars in donations from...you guessed it...Planned Parenthood!

Last fall, Liberty Counsel submitted, on Sandra's behalf, overwhelming evidence of an extensive scheme of coordination between Planned Parenthood and the two attorney generals. The coordination includes...

• campaign contributions
• join legislative lobbying to enact new laws to benefit Planned Parenthood
• a meeting between former Attorney General Harris and top Planned Parenthood officials that occurred only two weeks before Harris' investigators seized evidence from our client
• California Attorney General Becerra announced his Office is "united" with Planned Parenthood
• AG Becerra celebrated his primary election in front of a poster reading, "I STAND WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD"

For months, our legal team has been laying out the facts of this "unholy alliance." Based on the clear bias, we filed in court for AG Becerra to be recused from the case and for the criminal case to be dismissed based on selective, discriminatory prosecution.

But last week, the state Supreme Court, without comment, denied our motion.

Within weeks, Liberty Counsel will be back in court for a two-week preliminary hearing in the criminal case against Sandra. And this week we are filing a motion for summary judgment in the civil case. 

We are bracing for this next phase of Sandra’s legal defense to be even more costly and time consuming. But the cost of losing our liberties and the failure to stand up for innocent children is far more costly!
