Last week I was in Miami arguing before a federal Court of Appeals on yet another of our cases that is likely to go to the Supreme Court. The case challenges two local counseling bans – one in the City of Boca Raton, and the other in Palm Beach County, Florida. The argument went very well, but we will not have a ruling in several months. In the meantime, we are preparing for our next case this month.

One of our clients, Julie Hamilton, informed me just before the argument that she has had to turn away many requests for help because of these bans. It breaks her heart to not be able to help people who desperately need her.

Imagine after coming home from school, your daughter pours out her heart confiding in you that she is struggling with whether she is a girl or a “boy.” You both decide to seek counsel. You find Julie Hamilton, but during the appointment she responds with tear-filled eyes that the law forbids her from helping.

So you find another non-Christian counselor, but this one tells you to change your religious values and accept your unwanted, confused feelings. And, then recommends hormone blocking medication, and eventual surgery.

As a parent you would be distraught! But this is exactly what is happening!

Real people are being affected by these counseling bans. Right now, some family is torn apart over this struggle, and they are pleading to find help.

If allowed to stand, these bans create a legal precedent that could be used to prohibit unlicensed counselors, including all pastors, and even teachers from discussing scientific fact that there are only two genders.

I am reminded of 2 Timothy 4:3, "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions."
