These past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. We are fielding many calls non-stop from pastors and church leaders asking for help against unconstitutional orders by tyrannical, anti-religious state and local officials.

We will soon be filing more federal lawsuits to stop the state and local governments from deciding the form and manner of worship for every church without regard to their location or religious practices. I’ll get to those details in just a moment, but first I want to tell you about a stunning turn of events and abuse of power in New York City just two days ago.

Shortly after inviting Muslims to come out of "self-quarantine" to line up at food pantries, Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered a small number of Jews to immediately disperse during a funeral!

The renegade Mayor got wind of an Orthodox Jewish funeral happening in "his" city and was apparently so enraged that anyone would dare defy his illegal orders, that he personally interrupted the funeral to, (in De Blasio's own words), "ensure the crowd was dispersed."

To be very clear, this was a small gathering of Rabbis who came together for the "Levaya" of a respected elder Rabbi who had passed.

"Levaya," which means to honor the deceased by accompanying them to their grave, is an ancient and sacred practice for Orthodox Jews, and not one to be treated lightly.

Yet, in a tweet posted after the incident, De Blasio referred to the funeral as "unacceptable" and issued a strong threat to other Rabbis, stating religious gatherings "WILL NOT be tolerated." The emphasized words were De Blasio's alone. He doubled down in his next tweet stating, "I have instructed the NYPD to have one standard for this whole city: zero tolerance."

Mayor De Blasio's shocking actions and astounding threats against religious liberty are, unfortunately, just the tip of the iceberg of tyranny that is being launched against America's believers. In fact, Liberty Counsel is now actively defending, representing and counseling churches in about 40 states!

We filed suit in federal court defending our client Lighthouse Fellowship Church after Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam criminalized a pastor for having 16 people in a 293-seat sanctuary on Palm Sunday.

Today, we filed in the Court of Appeals to protect our client Maryville Baptist Church against Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. This week, the Kentucky Attorney General filed a brilliant amicus brief supporting our case. The brief blasts Gov. Beshear for violating the First Amendment.

The Attorney General's brief states that Gov. Beshear's order "leaves no doubt that all 'faith-based' gatherings are illegal." Indeed, the order imposes "a sweeping prohibition against religious activity throughout every corner of the Commonwealth." "This," the brief states, "is unconstitutional."

We will soon be filing in other states. We are working long days and into the evening and weekends to help pastors and churches against these state and local tyrants.

The number of churches in America seeking our help grows longer each hour. We have also received calls for help from around the world. The list grows despite clear directives from the Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney General that NO political leader may shutter churches or impede their freedom of religion.
