This week, Liberty Counsel is launching yet another lawsuit to free our nation's houses of worship from the tyranny of Democrat governors trying to shut down churches and silence Christians and people of faith.

But now that same religious freedom upon which America was founded is at its most serious risk since the beginning of our Republic. Pastors have been arrested and/or criminally charged for obeying their conscience and hosting services. Churches have been threatened with government seizure and destruction for refusing to obey unconstitutional shutdown orders.

Our attorneys and staff are working around the clock counseling and advising hundreds of thousands of churches located in 44 states. We have federal lawsuits pending against four of the nation's worst offending governors and we are preparing more filings this week.

In California, we will be filing suit against Gov. Gavin Newsom on behalf of Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, who is president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC). The NHCLC represents 42,000 churches nationwide. In addition to NHCLC, Sam is the senior pastor of churches in Sacramento and Los Angeles.

On July 1, as anti-American protestors continued to fill California streets chanting songs of revolution, hatred and destruction, Gov. Newsom banned all singing or chanting in houses of worship! If you do an internet search for "singing in the bible," you will find lots of Scripture texts that speak of singing to the Lord.

Even though the Bible says we should "Praise God in his sanctuary" (Ps. 150:1), Gov. Newsom says you must not! The governor has no authority to ban singing and chanting in churches.

Up until just yesterday, California churches were forced to limit attendance to 25% of capacity or 100 attendees, whichever were lower…no matter the facility size. This ban ONLY applied to houses of worship, not the throngs of violent revolutionaries mobbing California's streets or commercial outlets packed with shoppers! But now, Gov. Newsom has flipped the switch and gone back to FULL SHUTDOWN ...I’ll have more on that tomorrow.

In California, you can sing about revolution, but not about God.

In Illinois, we just filed with the Court of Appeals for a full panel review of our case against Gov. J.B. Pritzker for his discrimination against all Illinois churches, including our clients Elim Romanian Pentecostal Church and Logos Baptist Ministries.

As you may recall, officials targeted these Romanian immigrant churches, sending police cars to block the church parking lot, towing and impounding the cars of neighbors living around the church, and even issuing a notice warning of "Summary Abatement" (city seizure and destruction of church property), should the church re-open.

Both governors claim their actions are in the name of saving lives. Yet, according to the crime statistic database GunViolenceArchive.org, California had 15 shootings this weekend alone – and eight of those were fatal.

Meanwhile, Illinois had a sickening 74 shootings this weekend, with 17 dead and 57 injured. Chicago alone accounted for 16 of those dead and 54 of those injured.

And all the while, unmasked and often violent protestors are standing shoulder to shoulder, screaming vicious vulgarities at police and singing songs of Marxist revolution – completely unfettered and unreprimanded by the very same officials targeting pastors, houses of worship and churchgoers.
