There is increasing oppression of churches and pastors across America in states and municipal jurisdictions where lawlessness and the spirit of death are being championed by government officials. When lawlessness undermines the sanctity of human life and devalues religious freedom, it is inevitable that arrogant officials will attack the bastion of hope for all people -- our churches. That has been true for 2,000 years.

As you know, Liberty Counsel is helping thousands of churches and litigating in multiple states against the illegal edicts of out-of-control governors. In California alone, we are representing hundreds of churches, and we have legal challenges against anti-God governors from coast to coast in addition to actively counseling several thousand other pastors and churches.

In Maine, we represent Calvary Chapel of Bangor against Gov. Janet Mills, who demands that churches apply for HER permission to open, and only under HER extremely restrictive conditions.

In Virginia, we represent Lighthouse Fellowship of Chincoteague Island against Gov. Ralph Northam and his illegal attempts to shut down churches, even sending police cars to man the church parking lot waiting to arrest or scare away potential attendees.

In Kentucky, we represent Maryville Baptist Church of Hillview against Gov. Andy Beshear, who had every attendee of an Easter Sunday outdoor, stay-in-your-own-car, drive-in church put on the equivalent of 14-day house arrest...for attending church.

In Illinois, we represent Elim Romanian Pentecostal Church and Logos Baptist Ministries, both located in Chicago, against Gov. J.B. Pritzker and his illegal orders enforced by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s threats to seize and destroy church buildings and properties for refusing to obey Pritzker’s illegal orders.

In California, we represent Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry, with 162 affiliated churches in California alone, against CA Gov. Gavin Newsom’s outrageous bans on churches, worship and even Bible studies in peoples’ own homes!

In each of these landmark cases Liberty Counsel is defending, faithful Christians are fighting for their God given, unalienable, constitutionally GUARANTEED right to practice their religion as THEY please, not as GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS demand.

Each of the governors of these five states share these characteristics:

They encourage lawlessness, have little regard for religious liberty and are intensely pro-abortion and pro-Planned Parenthood.

A pro-death culture will always try to restrict the Christian church’s unalienable right to exercise freedom of religion.

And today, nowhere is this more obvious than in Democrat Vice Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris’ home state of California.

Liberty Counsel has contended with Harris before. When she was California’s Attorney General, she was the prosecutor who used the power of her state to defend Planned Parenthood’s gruesome “Baby Parts for Sale” scheme by taking the unprecedented action of beginning criminal investigation and raids that led to prosecuting our client, Sandra Merritt, for her undercover journalism that exposed Planned Parenthood’s crimes.

No undercover journalist in California history has ever before been charged with a crime for exercising their First Amendment right to free speech and to engage in the activities of a free press. But that didn’t stop Kamala Harris.

And now we see the same pattern in other California officials. Harris’ replacement, fellow Planned Parenthood supporter Xavier Becerra, has continued to aggressively press the bogus charges against Merritt.

And just as CA Sen. Kamala Harris stifled our client’s First Amendment rights to free speech and a free press, CA Gov. Gavin Newsom is squashing the First Amendment right to freedom of religion of our many church clients in that state. Those who do not respect human life do not respect religious freedom.
