As you know, pastors and churches are being singled out and targeted by rogue governors. The reasons are clear if you understand their underlying agenda. And in understanding that agenda, we can – together – defeat it!  Read on to learn more. -Mat

Liberty Counsel is representing pastors who have been threatened with arrest or have been arrested; threatened with criminal charges or are already criminally charged. We are also defending churches which have been illegally and unconstitutionally fined, restricted or closed by governors seeking to silence God’s people.

To date, we have federal lawsuits at the Courts of Appeal in California, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia and Maine. A sixth case will be filed later this week, and I will tell you about that one as soon as I am able.

Since March, Liberty Counsel has represented about 2,000 pastors and churches in 44 states. And our case representing the Chicago area immigrant Romanian churches against IL Gov. J.B. Pritzker will be the first church closure case to reach the Supreme Court for final consideration.

But have you wondered WHY a handful of governors would so blatantly violate the First Amendment? The answer is clear...

Throughout history, the Christian church has been the last and the best resistance to ungodly governmental authority. That’s because Christians love freedom and pastors can speak directly to their congregants, bypassing the manipulative fear and control techniques employed by ungodly rulers. Tyrants cannot allow another voice to compete with their dictates! These godless governors want no god but the state.

The same is true in America right now. The fact is, the Christian church is the last bastion of true freedom in our nation. Without the voice of Christians and people of faith, America will rapidly become an anti-God, anti-family, anti-life Marxist state. In 2016, Christians voted in record numbers and provided the margin of difference in the presidential race. Without the Christian vote, the radical Marxists will win every election, and the Marxists who crave total control know it!

The church is the rallying point to stop oppression!

Ungodly, lawless officials know that “rallying points” for Christians are the churches across the country that regularly meet. Or rather, used to meet! Church gatherings are where Christians can learn about God’s Word and how to apply it to our world.

Church gatherings are the most important social force in our nation -- bar none!

All the cases we are handling that involve oppressive church restrictions have this in common: A governor or local official who is, (1) radically pro-abortion and, (2) encourages thousands of protestors and rioters. Radical extremists are doing everything in their power to CRIPPLE THE CHURCH! To them, churches are “non-essential.” This is why they threaten churches that dare to gather.

Churches are multidimensional hospitals and triage centers that provide comfort and support for both body and soul. The Word of God and Christian fellowship powered by the Holy Spirit is a mighty force for good. The church has been essential for 2,000 years, and it is now more essential than ever.

In California, we represent 162 churches affiliated with Harvest Internation Ministry along with Harvest Rock Church and its affiliate campuses against Gov. Gavin Newsom’s outrageous bans on churches, worship and even Bible studies in peoples’ own homes! This week, I argued a major motion at the Court of Appeals and I will soon return for a full hearing on the merits of the case.

In Illinois, we represent Elim Romanian Pentecostal Church and Logos Baptist Ministries against Gov. J.B. Pritzker and his illegal orders enforced by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s threats to seize and destroy church buildings for refusing to obey Pritzker’s illegal orders. As I mentioned earlier, this case will be the first church closure case to go before the U.S. Supreme Court.

In Kentucky, we represent Maryville Baptist Church against Gov. Andy Beshear, who had every attendee of an Easter Sunday outdoor, stay-in-your-own-car, drive-in church put under the equivalent of 14-day house arrest... just for attending church. Our final briefs have been submitted and the full case will soon be heard at the Court of Appeals.

In Virginia, we represent Lighthouse Fellowship Church of Chincoteague Island against Gov. Ralph Northam and his illegal attempts to shut down churches, criminally charging the pastor and even sending police cars to the church parking lot waiting to arrest or scare away potential attendees.

In Maine, we represent Calvary Chapel of Bangor against Gov. Janet Mills, who demands that churches apply for HER permission to open, and only under HER extremely restrictive conditions and only with HER “Governor Approved Church” badge on the door. This month, we presented oral arguments before a three-judge panel and await their decision.

And later this week, we will be filing against another pro-abortion, riot-encouraging, church-restricting governor. It is no exaggeration to say that the impact of this misguided governor’s actions against our client is global, affecting not only the churches in that state, and this country, but the entire world. As soon as our filing is complete, I will be able to share the details.
