A Deborah-like judge has been nominated to the Supreme Court and her enemies are launching a Haman-like attack against her, based on nothing more than HER CHRISTIAN FAITH.

In the familiar Bible narrative, Daniel’s political enemies tried in vain to find something they could use against him that would diminish his influence over the government in which they served. His adversaries could find nothing in his actions or his character that could be twisted to discredit him in the way they intended.

They had only one line of attack left – Daniel’s faith. They knew that despite earthly edicts and laws threatening imprisonment and even death, Daniel would never stop serving his God.

And so it is with the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court. Judge Barrett graduated from law school number one in her class. She later became one of Notre Dame's most highly acclaimed professors as designated by both her peers and her students.

In her service as a clerk on the U.S. Supreme Court, Barrett was resoundingly well evaluated by her peers. In fact, every attorney who has EVER clerked for Judge Barrett, as well as every contemporaneous clerk at the Supreme Court – including late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s clerks - signed a letter of glowing recommendation for Barrett when she was nominated to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 2017.

By all accounts and from both sides of the ideological spectrum, Judge Amy Coney Barrett is one of the finest legal minds of our time. In addition, her life as a wife, mother, school, and church volunteer, as well as her character in serving the legal profession, have embodied the fruits of the spirit so well that her adversaries have nothing on which to attack this Deborah-like judge... except her faith.

The radical anti-faith, pro-death crowd went into overtime this week, railing against Barrett’s Christianity, attempting to paint her as some sort of religious nut and subjugated woman, based on her faith.

The idea that a woman who has succeeded in every level of her life and has risen to the very height of the legal profession is somehow “oppressed by her faith” is laughable on its face!

The life, legal career and authentic Christian faith of Judge Amy Coney Barrett disproves every lie the enemy has proffered.

But Judge Barret has yet another notable trait, and this one is critically important to our work here at Liberty Counsel.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett is a Constitutional textualist.

That means, Judge Barrett interprets the U.S. Constitution as written, not as radical activists and history revisionists would prefer.

This judicial perspective is important to our six federal cases defending the pastors, churches and parishioners who have been arrested, criminally charged, and/or fined for refusing to stop worshipping our Lord.

Our continuing legal fight for religious freedom will be long and expensive, no matter what happens in the Senate confirmation hearings. We have church cases challenging unconstitutional orders banning or discriminating against churches and worship pending as six different federal Courts of Appeal.

Yesterday, one of our non-church cases was reviewed by the eight Justices to decide whether to accept it for review. Within a week, we will file a request to the Supreme Court to review the case involving our Romanian churches in Illinois.

We need a ninth Justice confirmed who respects the rule of law and who will adhere to the original intent of the Constitution. Judge Barrett is such a person. That is why the radical secularists are so opposed to her confirmation.

At least one of our church cases will reach the Supreme Court in its next session, and we have several other religious freedom cases pending.

If the Senate fails to approve Barrett’s nomination, many of the cases before the Court this session – including our church closure cases - will not be ruled upon. Instead, lower court rulings – regardless of their merit – will stand… and religious freedom in America could be lost forever.

In order to preserve America’s first amendment right to religious freedom, we MUST have a Constitutional textualist judge filling the late Justice Ginsburg’s seat.

We must not let godless government officials silence God’s people.
