Lost their jobs for attending church...

Easter Sunday last year, members of the congregation of Maryville Baptist Church in Kentucky who attended a parking lot service were put on involuntary home confinement for two weeks, costing some their jobs.

The attendees stayed in their own cars, watching the sermon through their windshields as the message was delivered over loudspeakers. NONE of the attendees had COVID or any of its symptoms.

But that didn’t stop KY Gov. Andy Beshear from sending the police to shut down the service while issuing tickets and quarantine orders to attendees.

Liberty Counsel got involved and won TWO back-to-back, 3-0 federal court rulings against the Kentucky governor. Our lawsuit FREED the faithful folks of Kentucky to worship. But Beshear is still fighting, and other states are still in bondage.

Today marks the 323rd day worship has been ILLEGAL in California.

CA Gov. Gavin Newsom imposed a NO WORSHIP ban on March 19, 2020. For a short period of 48 days during the ban, he “allowed” no more than 100 people to worship. Then he rescinded the “privilege.” Violators of the ongoing oppression face the threat of jail and fines.

This week, we received an email... after posting a picture...Like in communist countries, someone turned this person in for attending an “illegal” church service.

The person is quite familiar with what it is like to live under communism, where both churches and Bibles were banned...and where neighbors would rat on church attendees to the authorities. These “Sunday Keepers,” as they were sometimes called, lost their jobs, their houses, went to jail and all too often lost their lives...for attending church.

The silencing and eradication of Christians in communist countries didn’t happen overnight. Instead, the persecution began with trivial things -- restrictions and measures “for your own good.” The government would take a little more...then a little more...until before you knew it, going to church would land you in jail. The communists required the children to attend school on Sunday so they could not worship.

CA Gov. Gavin Newsom has implemented and enforced the worst church restrictions in the nation and, for the longest time, ALL worship has been banned for 99.9% of Californians. Punishments for being “caught” going to church in California include $1,000 in fines and one year in jail per incident...just like under Communism.

It is absolutely APPALLING that in the United States of America -- a country founded on the Word of God -- that anyone should fear confinement, jail time, fines and loss of jobs for attending church.

Sadly, this is happening in several states…but Liberty Counsel is on the case!

Now, much like the Kentucky Christians we defended and freed, this educator has also been forced into involuntary home confinement… and is unsure of the future.

Liberty Counsel has federal lawsuits defending churches and churchgoers against the anti-Church governors of Maine, Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, and California. We have also provided counsel to over 2,000 additional pastors and churches in 44 states.

In each of these states, churches have been forced closed and/or severely restricted. People have been put on forced home confinement, lost jobs, been criminally charged and now face enormous fines...all for attending church.

The world seems upside down these days. Wrong is celebrated as right, and right is condemned as wrong. Our Judeo-Christian values, our Constitution, and the very rule of law itself are being bent beyond recognition or discarded entirely.

Such is the case with the sham impeachment of former President Donald J. Trump. Congress ONLY has the authority to impeach a president while in office. The Senate, which received the Article of Impeachment after Trump left office, has NO authority to try a private citizen.

Chief Justice Roberts knows this and that is why he refused to preside over the Senate "impeachment" sham. Instead, in a banana republic-like move, Democrat Sen. Patrick Leahy will preside over the trial as both judge and juror!

Many of our senators think they are above the law. We must remind them they are not.

Our other Supreme Court case is defending the Romanian immigrant churches of Illinois. I expect a ruling from the High Court any day on Gov. Newsom's NO WORSHIP orders.
