As a Navy command surface warfare officer, Charles* personally endorsed 16 religious accommodation requests (RARs) for the sailors who serve on his ship. But the Navy unlawfully denied every request, as well as his own request for religious exemption.

Charles is the commanding officer (CO) aboard one of the Navy’s guided missile warships. Prior to the mandates, including during deployment, the sailors aboard this warship successfully executed every mission without the COVID shots.

The health protection protocols the Navy implemented proved successful during this time. No sailors under Charles’ command died or became seriously ill from the virus. The health of the sailors under Charles’ command isn’t terribly surprising considering COVID has a low mortality rate for young, healthy people like those aboard his ship.

But Joe Biden is forcing every faithful religious adherent out of the military, including the Navy, where Charles has served for nearly two decades.

“I never thought I would be placed in the position of conflict between my faith and a military order,” wrote Charles, who now must “decide whether to remain true to what God wants me to do or be kicked out of the service.”

“I love both God and the Navy,” says Charles, who, like many of our other plaintiffs, just “want to be able to remain true to my beliefs, and continue to serve.”

The federal judge in our class action lawsuit Navy SEAL 1 v. Biden, ordered each branch of the military to file a detailed report regarding religious exemptions from the COVID-19 shot every 14 days beginning Friday, January 7, 2022.

The latest filings the court has received show that, as of February 4, out of 24,818 religious exemption requests received, the military continues to deny religious exemptions while granting 4,146 medical exemptions. In other words, an unvaccinated person has no restrictions if the reason is medical, but if the reason is religious, the person is discharged and punished. The judge found this clear evidence of religious discrimination.

By allowing medically exempted service members to continue serving without the COVID jabs, Biden’s DOD is openly admitting that the unvaccinated pose no harm to their fellow soldiers or the general public around them. By granting medical exemptions while issuing blanket denials for religious exemptions, Biden’s DOD is admitting something else—anti-religious bigotry.

When Charles joined the Navy, he took an oath to protect and defend the United States Constitution. As a commanding officer, Charles is also obligated to protect the rights of the men and women who serve under him.

In his sworn declaration, Charles notes that the COVID protocols taken on his ship were not only successful but also “are a less restrictive means of furthering the government’s compelling interest without infringing upon any service member’s religious freedoms.”

Charles is the highest-ranking officer in the Navy to request a religious exemption to Biden’s jabs. As such, Biden’s DOD has decided to “make an example” out of Charles for daring claim the religious freedoms rightfully due him and the sailors under his command.

Sworn to defend the Constitution, Charles is now being punished for demanding the Constitution be upheld.

Last Wednesday, Liberty Counsel secured a temporary restraining order preventing Biden’s DOD from taking any further action against Charles and another one of our plaintiffs, a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps. We are back in court TODAY seeking to extend this emergency injunction for these two military heroes who were scheduled to be punished on February 2 and 3.

Liberty Counsel will continue to seek to certify the class of all military service members, federal employees and federal civilian contractor plaintiffs to obtain the same protection for everyone.

Joe Biden and his administration are using COVID as a weapon to destroy America’s precious religious liberty and purge Christians and religious faithful.
