In Memory of a Hero

Oct 19, 2022

Sherry* asked us to share her family’s tragic story … so that it would never happen again. Her husband was a proud member of the U.S. Coast Guard.

This week, Liberty Counsel filed a renewed request for class certification and classwide relief to protect all Coast Guard members against a lawless administration intent on running Christians and other religious adherents out of the military.

This week, we begin taking scores of depositions as we prepare for courtroom battle. We need your prayers and your financial support to ensure that religious freedom remains free, especially for the brave men and women who have defended that freedom for us.

Please, prayerfully consider making a recurring monthly donation to replenish our legal defense fund. Every donation made today will be DOUBLED IN IMPACT by a generous Challenge Grant.

Don* and Sherry* made a career of the Coast Guard, dedicating themselves and their marriage to protecting America’s shores from accidents, natural disasters, drug dealers and human traffickers. As committed Christians, they see service to their country as a calling.

When the shot orders came down, both Don and Sherry submitted religious accommodation requests. They were unlawfully denied.

Their chaplain on base is also a plaintiff in our class action lawsuit against the Biden administration. Chaplain Alexandro explains what happened next.

The Department of Homeland Security (which oversees the Coast Guard) and the Coast Guard itself made clear that both Don and Sherry would be kicked out of the military, losing not one but both of the family’s sources of income and benefits.

Plus, says Chaplain Alexandro, the “punitive nature of their looming discharge” would make it difficult at best to get a good job outside of the Coast Guard, thanks to the negative characterizations that both husband and wife would receive on their discharge forms.

Don’s job in the Coast Guard was already highly stressful. But then the Coast Guard locked down both Don and Sherry, refusing to allow them to travel to see their friends, family or support group. The Coast Guard went a step further, forcing Don to identify himself as unvaccinated before his entire crew, and allowing him to be ridiculed for his convictions.

Chaplain Alexandro counseled both Don and Sherry throughout this time. He had approved the religious accommodations that the Coast Guard and the Biden administration unlawfully refused to approve. Don told Chaplain Alexandro that “despite this pressure, he hoped to persevere.”

Unable to see any way to salvage his career or the security of his household, Don took his own life on February 22, 2022.

Sherry is now a widow and is still receiving counseling from Chaplain Alexandro, who officiated Don’s memorial service. Sherry asked the chaplain to share their story in the hope that no other service men or women will be driven to suicide by the maniacal vax mandates of the Biden administration.

Our military members have the constitutional and legal RIGHT to refuse the COVID jabs. Court after court has made it clear to Joe Biden that his administration may not ignore the First Amendment or the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993. Yet, Biden persists and another armed forces member is DEAD as a result.

Are you tired of this tyranny yet? I know I am, and that’s why Liberty Counsel is fighting so hard to restore religious freedom. Coast Guard members face a deadline at the end of October. Please pray that the court grants our class action protection.

We need your help. Liberty Counsel has fought the COVID tyranny from the beginning. This is a David and Goliath moment, and I am specifically asking you to help fill our slingshot with stones to defeat the giant.

Please consider funding our legal work today to ensure we ALL remain free tomorrow. Every donation made today will be DOUBLED in impact by a special Challenge Grant. Please, help us help our heroes today!
