Last June, Joe Biden’s Transgender in Chief, Assistant Health Secretary Dr. Richard/Rachel Levine, endorsed a Biden executive order that directed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to EXPAND transgender “care” and surgeries to minor children, and work toward a total ban on Christian counseling for gender confusion and unwanted same-sex attractions.

By December, so many doctors, scientists and counselors began speaking out against child mutilation and “gender affirming care” for minors that Dr. Levine felt the need to tell news and social media organizations they needed to CENSOR any gender dysphoria information that contradicts the administration’s pro-cut-the-kids-up “transitioning” agenda. 

You have seen much of the science, so now I would like to share with you the stories of our clients who are being affected by these policies in the real world.

Liberty Counsel is fighting both prongs of this attack on our children. We recently won two federal appeals against local governments that banned Christian counseling for gender confusion and unwanted same-sex attraction. We won, and as a result, minors and their parents in Alabama, Georgia and Florida are once again able to receive this lifesaving counseling.

But many more cities and states have enacted their own bans. That is a dangerous problem, according to the plaintiffs we represent.

David was just 5 years old when a 16-year-old neighbor boy raped him. In the absence of therapy, David internalized the abuse. Instead of rightly blaming the abuser, like so many other boys and young men David blamed himself, feeling that perhaps he was not a “real” male child. As puberty hit, his confusion grew worse.

“When I reached puberty and for many years after it, I found myself sexually attracted to men because of my earlier abuse,” David says. “For all- of these years, I carried a feeling of immense and crushing shame for my same-sex attractions.”

David became clinically depressed twice, dealt with tremendous anxiety and experienced obsessive-compulsive disorder. David said he knew in his heart that the trauma left him “very confused about [his] sexual orientation and gender identity.”

Praise God, David found a licensed Christian counselor, and this counseling “saved my life,” David says. It helped him process his childhood abuse in a healthy way, while also getting rid of the shame he had carried his whole life. David said that a “real and profound change” in his sexuality resulted from therapy.

“The therapy helped solidify my gender identity,” he says, “which resulted in a profound increase in my self-confidence as a man and in my self-esteem.”

David escaped the abuser’s cage of guilt and shame. Finding freedom in Christ, David became a Christian family counselor himself.

Danny* is another of our clients. Raised in a family of five women and with a father who was not around, Danny let his sisters dress him up in frilly clothes like he was one of their dolls, just so he could have playmates. Lacking an adult male role model, Danny unconsciously adopted his sister’s flowery ways and soft mannerisms at an early age. This caused him to be gender confused.

In his sworn testimony before the court, Danny said he began to question his personal identity and became confused about who he was. He developed borderline obsessive-compulsive behaviors and personality traits. “Because of my personal identity issues and compulsive behaviors,” Danny says, “I also began to develop and experience deep emotional problems.”

Eventually, Danny says, this confusion about gender led to confusion about his sexual identity. Danny had an uncle who was homosexual, so Danny wondered if he might be, too. After all, the kids at school were already teasing him about his feminine behavior.

But Danny is a Christian, and he did not want his thoughts or behaviors to contradict the Lord’s will for his life. His family found a licensed counselor.

I am happy to report that Danny’s gender confusion resolved, thanks to Christian counseling. “I no longer exhibit the same feminine characteristics that I did before counseling,” Danny says. “I also no longer feel the need to act like a girl just to fit in with others. I have begun to act like the other teenage boys that I know.”

Danny says the counseling he received helped him align his identity with his identity in Christ.

Biden and Levine do not want you to hear stories like this, because these stories expose their lies.

We are fighting in Washington, D.C., and in state legislatures around the country to BAN this child abuse, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgical mutilation of minors. 

And our legal fight continues in the courts. Although we overturned counseling bans in Florida, Alabama and Georgia, about 80 such laws in state and local governments remain in effect. We will be filing suits in other states soon.
