“Every country has the government it deserves,” wrote French philosopher Joseph de Maistre in his Lettres et Opuscules. The idea is that governments are simply a reflection of the people who elect that government.

And American Christians, it turns out, are overwhelmingly refusing to shape their government.

• 40 million Christians do not vote.
• 15 million Christians aren’t even registered to vote.

There are some who claim that refusing to vote is the best reflection of their faith. But in refusing to vote, people are refusing to participate in the steering of our government.

When Christians don’t vote, we get:

• Tax dollars spent to murder children in the womb.
• Tax dollars spent to maim and sterilize children in the name of the LGBTQ agenda.
• Churches unlawfully shut down.
• Pastors arrested for refusing to relinquish their First Amendment rights.
• A Department of Justice weaponized against believers, arresting Christians for peacefully praying, while turning a blind eye to anarchy and socialist violence and destruction.

This isn’t hyperbole; these are actions the Biden administration has actually taken over the last three years.

Silence IS consent — and must not happen again in 2024!

If so many Christians had not stayed home on November 3, 2020, our country would likely not be in this predicament.

Perhaps if more pastors understood that they can and MUST take a stand on moral and even “political” issues, more Christians would fulfill their duty to steer the government that represents them.

Judeo-Christian values are what made America great. But if Christians don’t vote, those values never make it into our government policies. And all too often, the government we are left with turns against believers and our values ... like it has these past three years.

Maistre also argued that the decline of Christian participation in politics was directly responsible for the disorder and bloodshed of the 1789 French Revolution.

Make no mistake, I am not insinuating that a revolution, or anything like it, is in our future. Maistre’s observation simply illustrates a proven fact — when Judeo-Christian values leave the public square, chaos always results.

Indeed, the Holocaust instigated by Adolf Hitler would likely have been thwarted if pastors, churches, and the Christian community in pre-WWII Germany were not silent. Eric Metaxas says that of the 18,000 Protestant pastors in Germany in the 1930s, about 3,000 supported Hitler. About 3,000 opposed him, and the remaining 12,000 were silent. The consequence of that silence was deadly.

We can change the godless trajectory our country is on simply by mobilizing Christians to take their place once again in steering the civics of our culture.
