We Are Under Attack — This Hate Must End

Jul 17, 2024

Hate and dangerous vitriol are behind the recent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. The organization most outspokenly behind that hate is the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), whose so-called “Hate List” uses vitriol and slander to paint as evil its political enemies, like the former president, and Christian organizations, like Liberty Counsel.

The SPLC is coming after Liberty Counsel in a frivolous lawsuit intending to destroy our ministry.

Tomorrow, President Trump will deliver his acceptance speech in which he will call for unity — a call that demands the demonization of these haters ends NOW. Help us stop the hateful agenda of the SPLC. — Mat

Over and over again, the SPLC’s dangerous rhetoric has led to direct violence against Republicans, Christians, and conservatives.

James Hodgkinson was incited by the SPLC hate list to develop a list of targets he sought to kill. He traveled to Washington, D.C., and methodically plotted his plan. On the day of the congressional baseball practice in 2017, Hodgkinson fired 70 rounds aiming to take out as many Republicans as he could. Police officers later found a hit list in his pockets — the targets were all Republicans who had been featured on the SPLC’s hate list.

“When we name groups ‘hate groups,’ that has nothing to do with any allegation of criminality or some kind of measure of expected violence,” SPLC spokesperson Mark Potok said in 2007. “It’s purely about ideology.”

But the SPLC never makes that distinction clear. Instead, they fuel the fire for violence.

"From the moment Trump emerged as a political figure, he has exploited Twitter to spread lies, conspiracy theories and hate,” the SPLC wrote in 2018. “Rest assured that Trump and other hard-right extremists will do that again to divide our country in their attempt to secure power for their white supremacist agenda.”

“I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them,” Potok said at another event.

His plain declaration reveals the source of the SPLC’s agenda.

One hundred years before the SPLC came into existence, Vladmir Lenin wrote, “We must be ready to employ trickery, deceit, law-breaking, withholding, and concealing truth. … We can and must write in a language which sows among the masses hate, revulsion, and scorn toward those who disagree with us.”

Liberty Counsel in the crosshairs.

President Trump isn’t the only one SPLC is targeting. Liberty Counsel has already felt the libelous wrath of the SPLC on many occasions. For years, SPLC has falsely branded Liberty Counsel as a “hate group.” That label has cost us in many ways. Now SPLC is trying to sue us into bankruptcy, with one of SPLC's clients irrationally demanding we pay 200 BILLION dollars in damages for an imagined crime we did not commit.

The evidence proves we did nothing wrong, but the SPLC continues its suit anyway, not because they think they will win, but because they want to destroy us financially by tying our attorneys and resources up with this frivolous lawsuit.

Writing for the Washington Post in 2018, David Montgomery noted that the SPLC has established itself as the “ultimate judges of hate in America,” but openly questioned whether the organization was “judging fairly.”

“For decades, the hate list was a golden seal of disapproval, considered nonpartisan enough to be heeded by government agencies, police departments, corporations and journalists,” Montgomery wrote.

But now “the list has swept up an increasing number of conservative activists — mostly in the anti-LGBT, anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim categories.”

The SPLC lawsuit is not the only attack we are battling. Thanks to the SPLC calling Liberty Counsel a “hate group,” their violent adherents have tried to attack us as well.

After the Supreme Court cited our amicus brief in overturning Roe v. Wade, Washington, D.C., police informed us that the radical left had targeted our ministry for violence.

We had to hire armed guards and install new security measures in our Washington office just to keep our staff safe.

In all of our offices, we’ve had to beef up security, not just physical security measures like installing security cameras and reinforced high-security doors and entryways, but also investments in active shooter training and digital security to combat numerous attempts to shut down our servers.

We continue to fight the SPLC in this ludicrous lawsuit against Liberty Counsel, as well as to take measures to protect ourselves and our staff against the violence that is instigated all too often by the SPLC.

We need your financial help to battle this storm — and to shut down the violence and hate-inspiring SPLC once and for all.

Help us arm for battle! Please support our legal fund today. When you do, a special Challenge Grant will DOUBLE the impact of your donation.

Finally, I ask you to be in prayer for President Trump, and for the people injured and killed as a result of hateful propaganda, and for America. May we all arm ourselves with the full armor of God.

“The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways” (Deut. 28:7).
