The Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) Hate List has been associated with more than one attempted assassination. False, demonizing rhetoric is dangerous. We witnessed this on July 13 with the attempted assassination of President Donald J. Trump.
Liberty Counsel has been on the SPLC “hate list” since 2011, the same year American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, and Family Research Council (FRC) were added. In 2012, FRC was targeted for mass assassination. While we at Liberty Counsel have received death threats and experienced other consequences from this false label, none of our staff has been physically harmed. But the SPLC now seeks to bankrupt us instead.
We ask for your prayers and your financial support. — Mat

In 1932, Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels established the Nazi Propaganda Ministry to demonize enemies of the socialist agenda, and specifically Jews. Hitler and Goebbels knew that once a race was dehumanized, anything could be done. Their campaign was so successful that for the next 16 years, German citizens turned a blind eye to the more than 6 million Jews who were rounded into cattle cars, crammed into gas chambers, and killed.
Today, we have a new ministry of propaganda — the Southern Poverty Law Center. While not an arm of the U.S. government, the Obama and Biden administrations, as well as the media, have fallen lockstep into repeating the SPLC’s destructive falsehoods ... and blood has been spilled as a result.
In August 2012, Floyd Lee Corkins II was inspired by the SPLC Hate List to target Family Research Council for mass murder. Corkins intended to kill every employee and stuff Chick-fil-A sandwiches into their mouths. A brave security guard stopped Corkins but took a bullet in the process.
Corkins later confessed to the FBI that his murderous plan was motivated by the SPLC’s so-called “Hate Map” on its website that listed FRC as a “hate group.” In 2013, Corkins was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
On June 14, 2017, James Hodgkinson was inspired by the SPLC Hate List to assassinate every Republican Congressmen at a bipartisan baseball game. Hodgkinson fired more than 70 rounds, critically injuring a congressional staffer, a Republican lobbyist, a Capitol Police officer, and House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA).
Police officers killed Hodgkinson. Handwritten notes found in Hodgkinson’s pockets revealed the deranged man had a long list of Republicans he planned to kill that day, including Representatives Scalise, Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Trent Franks (R-AZ), Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Mo Brooks (R-AL) — ALL of whom the SPLC had previously vilified.

In June 2022, Capitol Hill and Washington, D.C., police visited Liberty Counsel’s D.C. ministry center to warn us of a pending attack. The agencies had credible information indicating that violent radicals intended to attack our offices and our ministry center staff.
The SPLC included Liberty Counsel on its Hate List due to our position on abortion and the LGBTQ agenda. The SPLC website has 287 separate entries slandering Liberty Counsel.
As a result, Liberty Counsel has had to implement strict extra security measures, including cameras and alarms, reinforced doors, ultra-secure servers, and even active shooter and anti-terrorism training for our staff.
On July 13, 2024, an attempt was made on President Trump’s life. While we do not yet know much about the shooter, we do know the SPLC has regularly castigated President Trump as a white nationalist, a liar, a conspiracy theorist who poses a threat to democracy, and a violent authoritarian. The SPLC’s media lapdogs have gone a step further, characterizing President Trump as an “existential threat to democracy.”
The SPLC website boasts 995 separate entries demonizing Trump. Is it any surprise a madman tried to kill President Trump last weekend?
Praise God, the SPLC’s violent adherents have not managed to harm a single hair on any Liberty Counsel employee’s head. But that’s not stopping the group from trying to destroy us.
For 12 years, the SPLC has engaged in frivolous lawfare against Liberty Counsel. The SPLC’s case has no merit or evidence, but its aim is to tie up our time and resources, attempting to financially bankrupt us with mountains of paperwork and distract us from our mission — defending life, religious liberty, and the natural family.
This is one of the longest cases in Liberty Counsel history, one in which we are defending ourselves against the SPLC’s hate-filled agenda.
We need your immediate help.
There’s another aspect here that bears mentioning. The security failures that led to the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump are not new.
In 2015, a madman jumped the White House security gates and made it inside the Obama White House before Secret Service stopped him. A bipartisan report documented the failures within the agency that led to such a breach of security and offered specific recommendations to reform the agency.
Nearly 10 years later, the spilled blood of President Trump proves irrefutably that the correctional measures Congress demanded have not been implemented. Instead of choosing the best and brightest to ensure the highest possible security for our elected officials, these agencies have instead focused on social engineering experiments often based on SPLC’s irrational and dangerous counterculture demands.
It’s time for the U.S. Government to STOP adhering to the SPLC demonizing propaganda and fix the Secret Service once and for all.
