Jonathan spent much of his young life seeking “transformation.” Uncomfortable in his own body, Jonathan was deceived into believing that if he simply became a “woman,” his angst would be eliminated and replaced with joy.

More than 100 cities and states have banned people like Jonathan from seeking and receiving Christian counseling to heal their gender confusion.

Liberty Counsel has overturned 23 of those bans, and now our work has teed up a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. This fall, the High Court will hear oral arguments to determine if cities and states can prevent people from seeking and receiving the Christian counseling of their choice — even if the LGBTQ army despises it. We are already preparing our brief.

Jonathan went through hormone treatments, changed his name to “Andrea,” and even underwent surgery in his quest to become a “female.” But instead of finding joy, Jonathan only found more discontent with himself, his body, and life in general.

Believing Christians to be little more than angry “Bible thumpers,” Jonathan began seeking “alternative identities” via any religion other than Christianity.

But no matter how much Jonathan meditated or “sought enlightenment” from the “universe,” joy remained elusive. When those religions and practices failed to provide the peace and joy Jonathan desperately sought, he switched to religions that promised reincarnation, hoping that perhaps in his “next life” he might actually become a woman at peace. But each of those belief systems failed Jonathan. He found only emptiness.

Jonathan had spent a lifetime rejecting God. “I believed there was no supernatural world; it was all up to me to resolve my sadness and awkwardness because there was no transforming power in the universe to help me.”

But in the midst of Jonathan’s angst, someone shared the Gospel of Matthew. It began a true transformation that saved Jonathan’s life and brought the peace he had been in search of for so long.

“While I was always trying to develop a different life for myself, what I really needed was a rebirth as a Christian,” Jonathan says. "It was only a few weeks before I stopped wearing dresses.” He continues: “Although accepting reality proved difficult, the journey strengthened my resolve all the more when I finally achieved the true spiritual transformation I’d always longed for.”

“The most healing realization is that our loving God is real and wants me to be content with who he made me to be,” Jonathan says. “I’ve seen the power of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit transform me and bring me a joy I never would’ve experienced regardless of how many surgeries I endured. I’ll never again turn away from my Lord and Savior.”

Christian change counsel helps gender-confused individuals like Jonathan know and embrace God’s good plan for our lives — especially the fact that God made us perfect just the way we are.

Yet 87 cities and states continue to ban this lifesaving counsel — effectively locking desperate individuals into a prison of gender confusion, angst, and misery.

As I said above, Liberty Counsel is already preparing briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court. Lives are literally at stake in this historic court case.

“Jesus’s work on the cross has saved my life, turned me away from my pain, and provided the transformation necessary to share my testimony with the world.”
