Leftist Governments Shut Down Christian Worship Services
Liberty Counsel is filing suit against Seattle and Los Angeles
In May, two cities led by leftist mayors shut down two public church worship services — simply because those gatherings were Christian. This is a clear violation of First Amendment rights.
After defeating so many anti-Christian mayors who attempted these strong-arm tactics during COVID, I’m surprised these mayors didn’t get the message — religious discrimination is ILLEGAL. That will soon be rectified because Liberty Counsel is taking Seattle and Los Angeles to court.
Don’t let anti-Christian politicians shut down any more church services! Support our legal fund today!
Our Constitution grants us the unalienable right to religious liberty. But the LGBTQ is hell-bent on a mission to eradicate this liberty, along with any and all public expression of Christianity. This Independence Day, make a bold statement of faith by supporting our legal fund.
In the days leading up to June’s “Pride Month,” a group of ministries planned to worship in the streets of five major U.S. cities — New York, Miami, Houston, Seattle, and Los Angeles — as a “Mayday” call to awaken America’s parents and politicians into protecting children and our religious freedom.
The worship services went off without a hitch in the first three cities. But on May 24, the City of Seattle purposefully created a situation that allowed antifa to violently attack the worshipping Christians before kicking them out of their own permitted event. Los Angeles unlawfully refused to permit the event at all.
Liberty Counsel is defending the Mayday churches and ministries in our latest case against Seattle’s antifa-supporting government and Los Angeles pro-LGBTQ mayor.
Mayday was inspired by a grassroots movement in Peru called #DontMessWithOurKids. Peruvian parents were able to overthrow the country’s prime minister and education minister who were enacting a George Soros-funded venture intended to force the “trans” agenda and abortion on the people.
The people rose up, using the Word of God to protect life and their kids.
Millions of Peruvian parents flooded the streets of the South American country, not with violence but by holding worship and prayer services, standing on the Word of God to protect their children.
The effort worked. The government ministers were overthrown. George Soros was defeated. As a result, the “trans” agenda is now officially classified as a mental illness in Peru, and life is defined as beginning at conception.
But when American churches in Seattle and Los Angeles attempted their own Mayday worship in the streets, LGBTQ- and abortion-linked politicians set them up to be violently attacked and shut down.
+ + Melee in Seattle. . .
When Mayday coordinators contacted the City of Seattle to permit their event, the City refused to grant a permit for the park the churches had chosen, instead ordering the churches to hold their event at a park near a predominantly LGBTQ neighborhood. The churches had no choice — either hold their event in that park or don’t receive a permit.
The worshippers arrived at their permitted event on May 24, but what was intended for prayer and praise quickly turned into chaos and violence.
The trans and antifa rioters arrived at the park dressed in black and wearing face masks to hide their identities. They soon began assaulting the Christians in attendance.

The protesters pelted the Christian crowd with urine-filled balloons. Other LGBTQ members sexually accosted children and the elderly, grinding their bodies against the Christian faithful in obscene acts.
Another protester pulled a knife on a 17-year-old youth who had simply come to pray. Others physically attacked both Christians and police. The attacks on the Christians became so violent that police had to shut down the event.
The entire melee was caught on film, giving evidence of exactly who enacted the violence. Twenty-three LGBTQ and antifa protesters were arrested, but Seattle’s Democratic mayor, Bruce Harrell, blamed the peaceful people who were victims of the attack, labeling the Christians as “far right extremists,” while not mentioning a word about the crazed leftists who caused the violence — or the fact that the city forced the Christians to hold their event in this particular neighborhood.
+ + Los Angeles roadblock. . .
Meanwhile, the City of Los Angeles refused to permit the Mayday event at all, claiming it would prevent fire trucks from going down the road in the event of an emergency.
Yet, just days later, the City of Los Angeles allowed the very same street to be used for a “Gay Pride” parade, which crowded several thousand LGBTQ adherents onto Hollywood Boulevard, so many that no emergency vehicle could have possibly entered the street. In short, LA’s refusal to permit the Mayday event was nothing short of blatant discrimination against Christians at the behest of the pro-LGBTQ mayor, Karen Bass.
The law is clear. Governments MAY NOT pick and choose which groups are allowed First Amendment rights of free expression or religious freedom. But that is exactly what both Seattle and Los Angeles have done.
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of the LGBTQ mafia and its woke adherents attempting to silence Christians and eradicate Christianity from the public square.
Thankfully, Liberty Counsel has fought and won scores of cases of this nature, and we will not stop until every attempt to rob Christians of their freedoms is eradicated.
But this legal work protecting religious freedom is expensive, and we need your direct financial support to fight and win these cases. We never charge our clients because we know that few people, let alone humble churches, have the financial resources to battle major cities’ well-funded budgets.
Instead, our clients rely on YOU, the faithful Liberty Counsel supporter, to ensure religious liberty remains FREE.
