This is why we must act now

Republican concessions in the BBB don’t bode well for the “Equality Act.”

Just because Republicans control Congress and the White House doesn’t mean that conservative principles will win the day. The BBB vote proved we cannot sit back idly and assume the Republican majority will vote the right way.

The “Big Beautiful Bill” (BBB) passed in July after the Senate ripped giant chunks of important policy out of the bill. Yes, the tax reductions passed, but Congress folded on many other crucially important areas.

Planned Parenthood was defunded for only one year, instead of the original 10. The bill allocated billions to merge biometric surveillance with artificial intelligence (AI) to create a surveillance state, where every person’s every move is tracked by the feds. And, the bill that was supposed to reduce debt actually ADDED 5 trillion dollars to our deficit, among other things.

I write to you today to issue yet another warning, one I have been making since January, that now that the BBB has passed, Congress is moving on to the Equality Act — a bill that seeks to sacrifice religious freedom on the altar of the LGBTQ.

One of our latest cases exemplifies the dangers all too well.

Hope* loves the Lord and uses her creative talent to earn a few extra dollars selling inspirational, custom-designed coffee mugs on a popular craft seller’s website. But when she was asked to make a custom mug celebrating “Queers,” her deeply held Christian beliefs prevented her from accepting the order.

The word “queer,” by definition, covers over 550 perversions (known as paraphilias), including necrophilia, bestiality, and pedophilia, among other deviant behavior.

There was no way that Hope, as a Christian, could fulfill that order without dishonoring God and violating her faith.

Liberty Counsel stepped in to ensure that the LGBTQ could not sue Hope into bankruptcy.

Now Congress is jumping into the fray, trying to pass the most egregious “Equality Act” yet.

On the National Day of Prayer, 214 House and 47 Senate Democrats teamed up to replace women’s rights with “queer” rights in HR 15 and S 1503, the Equality Act of 2025. That’s right — on the National Day of Prayer!

We have fought this legislation for years, and every year, the Democrats not only bring this sick bill back to the floor, but they also make it more deviant.

The Equality Act of 2025 seeks to: 

• Overturn every ban on men in women’s locker rooms and showers. 
• Overturn city and state obscenity laws that ban obscene drag queen burlesque and strip shows for children. 
• Federally ban Christian change counseling for patients seeking to heal gender dysphoria and unwanted unnatural desires. 
• Specifically revoke Section 1107 of the Civil Rights Act and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which, in turn: 
  • Forces churches and Christian schools to hire transvestites, pedophiles, and promote “queer” ideals. 
  • Forces ALL individuals and businesses, even Christian ones in their homes, to set aside their religious freedom beliefs and rights to instead promote “queer” ideals. 

If this bill passes, every protection we have won for women and children against the obscenities and recruiting efforts of the LGBTQ agenda will be overturned. Every battle we have fought for religious freedom will be impacted, and “America the Brave” will turn into “America the Queer.”

Liberty Counsel is leading the charge to correct the harm done by the Supreme Court’s 2015 opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges — which attempted to abolish gender, by removing gender from a strictly gender-based relationship. The result has been disastrous, prompting a rise in transgenderism, and now — as evidenced by Charlie Kirk’s murder, “furry” genders that identify as neither male nor female but instead as an animal. In the Dobbs case that overturned Roe v. Wade, Justice Thomas referred to Obergefell and wrote: 

“[W]e have a duty to ‘correct the error’ established in those precedents.” Our case involving Kim Davis is heading to the Court.  

Liberty Counsel is fighting to reverse both errors created by that 2015 activist Court — robbing people of their religious freedom while subverting the law to invent a new constitutional right.
