Planned Parenthood Plans to Sue to Force Abortion Funding
Despite losing the Medina case at SCOTUS, Planned Parenthood just filed a lawsuit to force the federal government to restore funding.
Planned Parenthood just won't take NO for an answer. As soon as Congress passed into law the Big Beautiful Bill, which defunds Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion for one year, the world’s largest abortion provider SUED the federal government to get YOUR tax dollars regardless of what the law says.
This lawsuit is ridiculous and frivolous on its face. Just weeks ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against Planned Parenthood in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, wherein the abortion giant attempted to sue the State of South Carolina for defunding it.
In that case, Liberty Counsel reminded the Court of our client, Sandra Merritt, who released shocking undercover videos of the baby parts harvesting scheme.
In Medina, the Supreme Court ruled that Planned Parenthood DOES NOT have a “right” to taxpayer dollars. Furthermore, the High Court found that states DO have the right to restrict certain businesses from receiving taxpayer-funded Medicaid dollars.
Planned Parenthood lost loud and clear before the High Court. But somehow, PP refuses to accept the ruling or the law.
Let me be clear — the Supreme Court has spoken. Planned Parenthood has no right to sue. And Congress passed the budget, which President Trump signed into law on July 4, that defunds Big Abortion.
Planned Parenthood doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on.
But that isn't stopping PP from trying.
Planned Parenthood’s latest move is a sick attempt to force you and me to fund abortion, and it is almost identical to the just-decided Medina case.
The statute at issue is the same (Medicaid Act); the funding mechanism at issue is the same (42 U.S.C. §1396, et seq.); and the government’s authority to restrict its funding provisions is the same (the spending clause of Article I, Section 8, Clause 1).
Only the defendant has changed. In Medina, Planned Parenthood attempted to sue the State of South Carolina to gain access to South Carolinians' tax dollars. Now Planned Parenthood wants to sue the federal government to get YOUR tax dollars.
Our work led to Planned Parenthood’s defunding.
Our work defending Sandra Merritt and her undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s bad deeds were the primary reason South Carolina defunded abortion in the first place. And our staff worked VERY closely with congressional lawmakers to get Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion defunded.
Planned Parenthood lost nearly 800 million in taxpayer dollars, thanks to our work. And Liberty Counsel will keep fighting to ensure the world’s largest abortion provider doesn't get another cent of taxpayer dollars. Liberty Counsel will be filing a brief in this case soon after Planned Parenthood files its suit. But we need your direct financial support to ensure victory.
