A Court Rules YOU Must Fund Planned Parenthood No Matter What the Law or the Supreme Court Says

On Friday, July 4, 2025, President Donald Trump signed the Big Beautiful Bill into law. One of the provisions in the bill DEFUNDED Big Abortion, preventing any taxpayer dollars from being sent to Planned Parenthood or any other large abortion provider. 

But on Monday morning, Planned Parenthood raced to a friendly court seeking an injunction to force the federal government to give the world’s largest abortion provider YOUR money, regardless of what the law or even recent Supreme Court rulings said. 

Obama-appointed Massachusetts District Court Judge Indira Talwani was more than happy to oblige the world’s largest abortion provider. Late Monday afternoon, Judge Talwani issued a Temporary Restraining Order forbidding state and federal governments from defunding the abortion giant. 

Liberty Counsel will prepare a brief for the next steps in this battle against Planned Parenthood.

There are two massive problems with Judge Talwani’s ruling.

In two recently released decisions, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that:

1. Governments DO have the right to refuse funding to certain providers (Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic).

2. Lower court judges MAY NOT issue nationwide injunctions (Trump v. CASA Inc.).

But Obama-appointed Massachusetts District Judge Indira Talwani believes SHE has the power to overrule the highest court in our land! This decision must not stand. 

Liberty Counsel’s work has been instrumental in defunding abortion. 

Our work defending Sandra Merritt and her undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s bad deeds were the primary reason South Carolina defunded abortion in the first place. When Planned Parenthood sued the Palmetto State in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic trying to reclaim those lost dollars, our brief reminded the High Court why the abortion giant was defunded.

Furthermore, our staff also shared this information with the White House and Congress to ensure Big Abortion was defunded in the president’s budget bill. This Big Beautiful Bill defunds Big Abortion providers across the board based on objective criteria. The bill does not target Planned Parenthood but rather is focused on abortion providers that receive a certain level of Medicaid funding. 

Planned Parenthood lost loud and clear before the High Court in Medina. But somehow, PP and this Obama-appointed judge refuse to accept the ruling.
