It’s been over 70 years — but the time to FREE America’s pulpits is finally here. 

The Johnson Amendment, slipped into the tax code in 1954 by then-Senator Lyndon B. Johnson, has muzzled pastors and silenced churches for generations. But now, the tide is turning. 

Thanks to growing momentum in Congress and your faithful support, we have the BEST opportunity in decades to END the unconstitutional Johnson Amendment once and for all! 

The IRS has proposed a Consent Decree about enforcement of the Johnson Amendment. But the judge still must approve the agreement. While this agreement is a good step in the right direction, it is narrow and does not permanently repeal the law. That’s why Congress must act NOW! 

Fear. That’s what the Johnson Amendment has sown in churches across America. While not a single church has lost its tax-exempt status for speaking out, countless pastors have stayed silent — paralyzed by the threat of IRS retaliation. 

Enough is enough. 

With bills now introduced in both the U.S. House and Senate by Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC) and Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), the Free Speech Fairness Act will RESTORE First Amendment protections to pastors, churches, and all nonprofit organizations. 

And with a Republican majority in the House, Senate, and White House, this moment cannot be squandered. 

At Liberty Counsel, we’ve been fighting this battle for years. I even served on a congressional task force to investigate and expose the chilling effect of the Johnson Amendment. Our legal team recommended its full repeal — and now we have a chance to see it through. 

But we can’t do it without YOU. 

Our pastors must be free to speak truth from their pulpits without fear of punishment from the IRS. The church must be unleashed to engage the culture and confront evil — whether it’s abortion, the radical LGBTQ agenda, or political corruption. Silence is no longer an option.
