A wounded child. A misguided solution.
Walt Heyer was just a child when the confusion began.
His grandmother, though well-meaning, began dressing him in a purple chiffon dress and calling him by a girl’s name. What started as play soon planted seeds of confusion deep in Walt’s heart. At school, he was bullied. At home, he was abused by an adult. These traumas built layer upon layer of identity pain and disorientation.
By the time he reached adulthood, Walt felt desperate. Longing for peace and clarity, he turned to the only solution that culture offered: “gender transition.”
He began taking hormones. He underwent surgery. He legally changed his name and started living as a woman named “Laura.” Everyone told him this would make the pain go away.
But it didn’t.
We can’t do this life-saving work without YOU!
The truth will set you free!
“I lived as Laura Jensen, female, for eight years. ... I discovered that the surgery fixed nothing — it only masked and exacerbated deeper psychological problems,” Walt recalls. “The surgery was a temporary fix for very deep wounds. It wasn’t gender dysphoria — it was unresolved trauma.”
Walt’s journey didn’t end in despair. Through the loving witness of Christians and faith-based counseling, he finally encountered what no doctor had ever offered: the truth of God’s design.
He stopped identifying as “Laura.” He began the slow, painful process of healing from his trauma — and embracing the man God created him to be. Walt was redeemed, restored, and reborn — not by drugs or surgeries, but through the power of Jesus Christ and biblical counseling.
Now, Walt dedicates his life to telling the truth and helping others find the same healing.
But the counseling that helped Walt is being BANNED
Across America, at least 87 cities and states still ban Christian change counseling — making it ILLEGAL to offer the very therapy that helped Walt find freedom.
Under these unconstitutional laws, Christian counselors can’t even speak about biblical truth to someone who asks for help. It’s government-enforced deception.
This fall, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear Chiles v. Salazar, a landmark case that could strike down these bans nationwide. Liberty Counsel is on the front lines — we’ve already overturned 23 of these counseling bans, and this case is the culmination of over a decade of tireless work since 2012.
We’re almost there — but we need your help
We’ve filed one brief in this case and are preparing to file another — but we urgently need your support to see this case through.
Now, with your help, we can protect the Christian counseling that helped save him — and others like him.
Christian counseling SAVES LIVES.
The stakes couldn’t be higher
Nathaniel, like Walt, was a bright young man who, instead of receiving talk therapy, was rushed into dangerous surgeries. He now lives with permanent damage and crushing regret.
“I turned myself into a plastic-surgery facsimile of a woman,” he says. “The result looks like a Frankenstein hack job. I became—and still feel—deeply depressed.”
Nathaniel should have been offered counseling. He should have heard the truth. But instead, he was cut off from hope — by the very laws Liberty Counsel is fighting to overturn.
The time to act is NOW
The current administration has shown greater resolve to protect our children and uphold truth than any in recent memory. With the right momentum — and your faithful support — we have a real opportunity to end these dangerous bans once and for all.
We can’t do this without generous supporters like YOU!
Please give today to defend Christian counselors, protect vulnerable youth, and preserve the right to seek healing through God’s truth.
TAKE ACTION
The threat to Christian counseling is just the beginning. The so-called “Equality Act” would enshrine LGBTQ ideology into federal law. Christian schools, ministries, counselors, and even churches could be forced to comply with radical gender ideology. Fax Congress and sign our petition today!
