“A Central Bank Digital Currency is essentially a digital version of the dollar issued by the federal government that uses crypto technology known as a blockchain to record everything and everybody who owns tokens,” admits Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) (emphasis added). She is the ranking Democratic member of the House Financial Services Committee.

Waters said that the government should be allowed, even required, to monitor and control every cent you earn, spend, or save.

In her speech, Waters noted that many other countries in the world have already issued CBDCs, so she wants the U.S. to be one of them.

Her comrade in arms promoting CBDC financial surveillance is Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA). Lynch believes America should adopt a CBDC simply because China has already implemented one. Failure for the U.S. to issue a CBDC is “giving China another opportunity to capitalize on a new technology,” Lynch says.

But just because China has found a new way to spy on and control its citizens does NOT mean the U.S. should do the same!

What these pro-financial-surveillance politicians fail to understand is that America is NOT like every other country in the world, nor do we want to be!

Thankfully, people like Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), who wrote the House version of this bill (HR 1919), DO understand America’s unique freedom and are trying to cajole a somewhat reluctant Senate to protect us from CBDCs.

“While other nations embrace centralized digital currencies as tools of control — none more chillingly than the Chinese Communist Party — we must draw a firm line in defense of American freedom,” Emmer says.

He wisely noted that if we do not ban CBDCs NOW, we are “leaving the door open for future administrations to turn that same technology against our own citizens.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who penned the Senate version of the bill (S 1124), concurs, saying that a tyrannical administration (like the Biden administration) “salivates at the thought of infringing on our freedom and intruding on the privacy of citizens to surveil their personal spending habits, which is why Congress must clarify that the Federal Reserve has no authority to implement a CBDC.”
