Punishing Pastors For Their Faith

Oct 21, 2025

Pastors Under Fire from LGBTQ Attacks

Pastors are increasingly under fire as the LGBTQ attacks target them simply because of their Christian faith

Some ministers, like Pastor Ben* in Montana, Pastor Warren* in Virginia, and Pastor Lou* in Louisiana, have jobs outside their churches. In addition to leading their small churches, two of these pastors work as realtors, helping families find their dream homes. The third was a librarian, helping children and adults find quality literature for entertainment and education — that is, until LGBTQ activists decided to punish these pastors in their professional careers because of their Christian faith.

Liberty Counsel is defending each of the pastors below who have been unlawfully discriminated against and fired from their jobs solely over their Christian beliefs.

As we defend these pastors, LGBTQ advocates in Congress are working to create a new law, the Equality Act of 2025, which seeks to puts LGBTQ rights above constitutional religious freedom rights. We must stop this bill! At the end of this email, you can fax Congress to vote NO on HR 15. And to support our defense of these pastors, our Challenge Grant will DOUBLE YOUR GIFT!

In Pastor Ben’s case, the problem arose when a food bank that Pastor Ben’s church had been supporting decided to promote LGBTQ content to children. The food bank began handing out LGBTQ coloring books to every child who attended the organization's free summer lunch program.

Because the food bank’s activities directly contradicted church doctrine, Pastor Ben and his church decided they could no longer support the LGBTQ-pushing food bank.

Angry with the church’s decision, LGBTQ activists filed an ethics complaint against Pastor Ben in his capacity as a licensed Realtor.

To be clear, the church’s decision and Ben’s actions as a minister within that church had nothing to do with his real estate license or activities. But the LGBTQ crowd wanted to punish the pastor for being a pastor at a Bible-believing church.

Eager to please the LGBTQ activism camp, the Missoula Organization of Realtors, a subsidiary of the Montana Association of Realtors, ruled against Pastor Ben, ordering him to pay a 5,000-dollar fine and take pro-LGBTQ classes.

In Pastor Warren’s case, two competing, pro-LGBTQ Realtors filed multiple ethics complaints with the National Realtors Association because Pastor Warren posts Bible verses, memes, and sermons on his personal social media page.

Pastor Warren has been persecuted and dragged through the mud, and had his reputation and real estate career ruined because of the National Association of Realtors’ “Hate Speech” policies that blatantly discriminate against Christians.

In Pastor Lou’s case, a fellow Baton Rouge public library employee complained that Pastor Lou refused to use “preferred” pronouns when referring to another library trainee involved in the LGBTQ lifestyle.

The Baton Rouge library FIRED Pastor Lou, claiming the pastor had violated the library’s “inclusiveness” policies. The library’s own policy notes that people must not be discriminated against because of religion — a right enumerated in the U.S. Constitution, as well as state and federal law. But because Pastor Lou’s religion forbids him from lying and denying basic biology or God’s design for men and women, the library discriminated in favor of the LGBTQ agenda (which does not have enumerated constitutional rights), and against Pastor Lou solely because of his Christian beliefs.

These pastors did nothing wrong!

In the Realtor/pastors’ cases, the Fair Housing Act is supposed to protect against religious discrimination — which is exactly what Pastor Ben and Pastor Warren are experiencing. But the Realtors’ groups decided that LGBTQ rights were more important than the rights of Christians — and Pastor Ben was stripped of his license to sell real estate.

In the librarian/pastor’s case, the library is violating Title VII federal employment rights, as well as local, state, and federal religious freedom rights.

Thank God for your support! As you know, Liberty Counsel NEVER charges our clients. We know that few, especially pastors, have the financial resources to fight for their religious freedom rights. Instead, our clients — Pastors Ben, Warren, and Lou, and others like them — rely on YOU, the faithful Liberty Counsel supporter, to ensure religious freedom remains FREE. Help us defend people of faith by supporting our legal fund. Every donation made today will be DOUBLED in impact by a special Challenge Grant.
