This is not an argument that hormones excuse criminal behavior. Nor is it a claim that every hormonal change or drug produces dramatic psychological consequences. Rather, it exposes a fundamental inconsistency: Hormones and mind-altering drugs cannot be treated as profoundly influential when that argument is useful for adults, but are somehow irrelevant when the discussion turns to medical interventions involving children. 

If we acknowledge that naturally occurring hormonal fluctuations can affect mood, cognition, emotional regulation, energy, sleep, and behavior, AND that anti-anxiety and antidepressant SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) drugs are known by the FDA to CAUSE suicidal and homicidal behavior, then it is entirely reasonable to ask whether deliberately suppressing, introducing, or substantially altering hormones in a developing child, while also drugging that child with SSRIs, could also have meaningful effects. 

One cannot simply declare the second question off limits because it is politically or emotionally controversial. 

The inconsistency becomes even more significant when considering the difference between adults and children. Adults generally have completed much of their neurological, emotional, and physical development. Children and adolescents, by contrast, are still developing. Puberty itself is a complex biological process involving not merely changes to reproductive organs, but also broad changes throughout the body and brain. 

It is simply illogical and indefensible to begin with the assumption that significant hormonal and SSRI intervention is harmless.

We cannot argue that hormones and prescription drugs can profoundly affect the human mind in a courtroom and then dismiss concerns about medically altering a child's hormonal development. 

If hormones and prescription drugs matter, they matter. Their effects may differ according to age, dosage, biology, medical condition, and circumstance — but those differences should be investigated scientifically, not assumed away for ideological convenience. 

Consistency is not a political position. It is a requirement of sound reasoning. And that is EXACTLY why Congress must pass the Chloe Cole Act now. 

Fax Congress now and demand they permanently BAN chemical and surgical child “transitions” by passing the Chloe Cole Act.
