Liberty Counsel Files Brief Defending National Motto: "In God We Trust"

Today, Liberty Counsel filed an amicus brief in the case of Newdow v. United States Congress with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco, California. Atheist Michael A. Newdow suit claims that the national motto, "In God We Trust" violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution. Newdow lost at the district court and the case is now on appeal. Newdow's previous suit to remove "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance was unsuccessful.

Previous challenges to the national motto were also unsuccessful. You can read more about this case in our news release which is posted on our web site.

Please help support our efforts to preserve our national motto by giving a tax deductable year-end contribution to Liberty Counsel.

Are You Looking for Special Christmas Gifts?

A great Christmas gift for your children is the New England Primer. This little book is a good example of early American education. Introduced in the Boston public schools in 1690, for the next two centuries the New England Primer was a required textbook from which every first grader learned grammar and spelling. The New England Primer taught first graders the alphabet using religious references. For the letter "A", the students learned, "In Adam's Fall, We sinned all." For the letter "C", the students recited: "Christ crucified, For sinners died."
