Liberty Counsel Busts Myths About Christmas Displays In Ohio Cities and Parks

Dec 6, 2007

Liberty Counsel is involved in combating myths that have been spreading like wildfire across the country regarding the constitutionality of displaying nativity scenes at Christmas. Recent activity has centered in the State of Ohio, where controversy involves displays outside government buildings and in public parks.

When we hear of controversies over public holiday displays, we send letters and legal memoranda to government officials involved and offer to defend them at no cost against legal challenges. We also need your help!

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources recently ordered all of Ohio’s state parks to remove any nativity scenes, citing a complaint about the nativity scene at one park.

Contact the Ohio Department of Resources to let them know what you think about censorship of nativity scenes in state parks.

The City of Whitehall, Ohio received a complaint from an anti-Christian organization known as The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) because of a nativity scene in front of the City Hall. The nativity is part of a display that contains a Christmas tree and lighted reindeer. So far, City officials are not bowing to pressure from FFRF.

You can contact city officials and urge them to stand firm against the Freedom From Religion Foundation and keep the nativity scene as part of the traditional holiday display the city has had for many years.

New England Primer

New England Primer is a great Christmas gift for your children or grandchildren is the New England Primer. This little book is a good example of early American education. Introduced in the Boston public schools in 1690, for the next two centuries the New England Primer was a required textbook from which every first grader learned grammar and spelling. The New England Primer taught first graders the alphabet using religious references. For the letter "A", the students learned, "In Adam's Fall, We sinned all." For the letter "C", the students recited: "Christ crucified, For sinners died."
