Parkway School District’s “Healthy Relationships and Sexual Health Curriculum Frameworks” violates Missouri law, Liberty Counsel told the Parkway School District in Chesterfield, Missouri. After being contacted by a concerned parent, Liberty Counsel reviewed the sex education curriculum and found illegal referrals for abortion by groups developing and promoting the curriculum.
Planned Parenthood’s youth arm “Teen Advocates for Sexual Health,” is pushing the curriculum, which is based on the “National Standards” developed by the “Future of Sex Education Initiative,” a project of SIECUS, “Answer,” and “Advocates for Youth.” The curriculum and its authors make numerous website referrals to abortion providers. Even the “Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership” (“TPPP”), an organization providing resources used by Parkway, makes website referrals to all locations owned by Planned Parenthood of St. Louis and Southwest Missouri, which is one of TPPP’s “organizational members.” At all these locations, Planned Parenthood refers teens for abortions, and it performs abortions at the very first clinic on TPPP's referral list. Missouri law prohibits all such organizations from “furnish[ing] in any manner” course materials or instruction for sex education.
Missouri law states, “No school district or charter school, or its personnel or agents, shall provide abortion services, or permit a person or entity to offer, sponsor, or furnish in any manner any course materials or instruction relating to human sexuality or sexually transmitted diseases to its students if such person or entity is a provider of abortion services.” Under the statute, “abortion services” includes performing abortions or making referrals to those performing them. See Mo. Ann. Stat. § 170.015.
