As the new congressional leaders take their place in the 112th Congress, Liberty Counsel joined about 30 conservative leaders who sent a joint letter through the Freedom Federation to House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Minority Whip Jon Kyl urging their active support for social issues, especially the sanctity of human life and the preservation of marriage, along with economic and national defense issues.

With regard to social, economic, and national defense issues, the letter states: “We believe that all three in combination are essential for America and our future…We believe it is critically important that the leadership, and those appointed or elected to lead, embrace all three…we believe that social issues, including, but not limited to, the sanctity of human life and the preservation of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, are indispensible.”

The Reagan Revolution brought together social, economic and national defense conservatives. The foundation of good government requires placing a high value on human life, including the most vulnerable among us. Stable governments depend on strong families. The three legs of Reagan conservativism include social, economic and national defense issues. We call on the new congressional leaders to embrace social, economic and national defense issues. We can never call a ‘truce’ on social issues when children are being killed and marriage is being deconstructed.
