Presidential Candidates Address Values Voters In Debate Tonight

Sep 17, 2007

Ft. Lauderdale, FL - A Values Voter Presidential Debate will be held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET. A number of Republican candidates, including Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Sam Brownback, John Cox, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and Alan Keyes, have confirmed their attendance at the event.

Representatives of Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson cited scheduling pressures for their decision to skip the event, but they each scheduled recent trips to Florida. Thompson campaigned in South Florida last Friday, Giuliani will return to the state today and Romney tomorrow. Chairs will be set up for the candidates who declined to attend, and questions will be posed to those candidates and will be presented to their campaigns after the debate.

Leaders from at least 30 of the nation's most influential groups will ask the questions of the candidates that matter most to the "values voters" - the largest voting block in America. A straw poll will be held after the debate to find out which candidate wins the support of the delegates to the event. There is a waiting list for seats in the 2,700-seat performing arts center.

Mathew D. Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law, a member of the host committee for the debate, will be asking questions of the candidates. Also participating will be key pro-family leaders, including Star Parker, president of the Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education, Paul Weyrich, founder and president of the Free Congress Foundation, Phyllis Schlafly, founder and president of Eagle Forum, Don Wildmon, founder and chairman of the American Family Association, Janet Folger, president of Faith2Action and Rick Scarborough, president of Vision America.

The event will be broadcast live on Sky Angel satellite, VCY America and AFA radio networks and will be streamed live streamed live by www.ValuesVoterDebate.com and the American Family Association. INSP Network will re-air the program on Saturday night, September 22nd. The debate will also be televised on the DayStar Television Network and God TV. Every Democratic candidate declined to participate in a similar debate planned for next week.

Mathew D. Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law, commented: "Values voters are the largest voting block in America. Presidential candidates who ignore or oppose the core positions of values voters will never find their way to the White House."
