Liberty Counsel applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for the unanimous passage of a resolution condemning the theft of the Mojave Desert memorial cross. The cross serves as a memorial to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our nation in World War I, and it honors all veterans, living or dead. It is the only memorial of its kind to honor the fallen soldiers of World War I. Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-CA), who proposed the resolution, made it clear that preserving the honor and memory of veterans, fallen or otherwise, was critical. The memorial was built in 1934 and has comforted many soldiers and citizens since that time.
Now, Attorney General Eric Holder ought to aggressively defend this case. A replacement cross has been donated, and President Obama ought to direct his agency to reinstall it in place of the original memorial cross.
