Today, the Freedom Federation and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference hosted a telephone conference on Israel and the conflict with Hamas. Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, spoke briefly to participants.

Operation Pillar of Defense was preceded by months of rocket fire from Gaza by the terrorist group, Hamas, into the southern border towns of Israel. Israelis could not be more than 15 seconds away from a bomb shelter.  “Life had become intolerable,” Ambassador Oren said. More than 13,000 rockets and mortars have been shot into Israel since 2005, and last week more than 1,050 missiles were launched by Hamas at Israeli civilian sites.

Israel has a right to defend itself. No nation would tolerate terrorists firing missiles at civilian city centers. Hamas is committing war crimes by intentionally targeting civilian populations. In contrast, Israel drops leaflets and places tens of thousands of cell phone calls warning people of targeted attacks. We pray for peace and we stand with Israel.
